RFID Evaluation Kits
Each kit pairs an Identium UHF RFID reader with a sample kit of UHF tags and labels and free Identium software for that reader (no licence fee), so you can test RFID on your own items before a roll-out.

Why start with a UHF RFID evaluation kit
A datasheet read range is measured with a good tag in open air. Your stock is different: steel racks, bottled liquids, folded garments, jewellery trays and stacked cartons all change how far and how reliably a UHF tag answers. An evaluation kit, sometimes called an RFID demo kit or proof-of-concept kit, puts a real Identium reader, a set of sample tags and the reader's software in your hands, so you find out on your own floor before committing to a roll-out.
A well-planned trial answers three questions:
- Read range on your items. How far the reader picks up a tagged carton, garment or tray, not a tag held in the air.
- Metal and liquid behaviour. Which tag type keeps reading when it sits on a metal surface or next to a bottle, and which one goes quiet.
- How data reaches your system. Whether an Excel export is enough for now, or whether reads need to flow into your ERP, WMS or web app over HTTP or through an SDK.
The four evaluation kits
Inventory kit: CX1500N handheld
For walk-around stock counts, audits and item search; see the inventory evaluation kit.
Fixed reader kit: IF9A
For doors, gates and conveyors, where tagged goods pass a fixed point unattended; see the fixed reader evaluation kit.
Bluetooth kit: MUBR01
For checks at a counter, shelf or tray, using an Android phone your team already has; see the Bluetooth reader evaluation kit.
Starter kit: UCR10 USB-C
For a first look at UHF RFID on a phone, and for developers; see the starter evaluation kit.
Comparing the kits
| Kit | Reader | Stated range | Connects to | Free software | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Fixed Reader (IF9A) | Fixed reader with built-in antenna | Up to 25 m effective | Ethernet/PoE, USB, RS232, Wiegand | ReaderSense | Doors, gates, conveyors, unattended reads |
| Bluetooth (MUBR01) | Pocket reader + your Android phone | 0–3 m | Bluetooth LE | MUBR01 app | Counter, shelf and tray checks |
| Starter (UCR10) | USB-C plug-in reader | Up to 1.5 m | Phone USB-C | UCR10 Flow | First trial, developers, light use |
Stated ranges depend on the tag, the item it is fixed to and the surroundings; the trial shows what you get on your own stock. Unsure between a handheld and a fixed reader? Read fixed vs handheld RFID readers.
How to run a trial
- Name the items. List what you plan to tag, such as cartons, garments, metal parts, bottles or jewellery, so the sample mix suits them.
- Tag a representative set. Include the hard cases: metal, liquids, dense stacks and small pieces.
- Test where the work happens. Read on the actual shelves, racks, counters or doorways, at the distance and pace your staff work at, and, on the CX1500N, IF9A and MUBR01 kits, change the reader power to see the effect.
- Check the data path. Export a session to Excel and compare it with your stock list; on the CX1500N and IF9A you can also send reads by HTTP POST to a test URL and watch them arrive.
- Write down what worked. Record which tag read best on which item and at what distance; that note becomes your tag and reader order.
After the trial
Once you know which tag works on which item, order in volume from UHF RFID inlays and labels or UHF RFID tags, which include on-metal and hard tags. For quantities, printing or encoding, send your requirement through bulk RFID pricing and ask for a quote.
