Overview

A UHF RFID reader module kit for embedded builds

When RFID will sit inside something you make, such as a smart shelf, a cabinet or drawer unit, a counter, a gate controller or a machine, a boxed reader is not the part that ends up inside it. This RFID development kit is for integrators and OEMs in India who need the parts they would design around, so one working read zone can be built and tested on the bench before you commit to an enclosure or a production run. The SY702 is the antenna half of the kit: a low-gain strip sized for a single shelf, drawer or tray.

What you can prove on the bench

  • Wire it to your controller. Bring reads into a PC or server over Ethernet, into a PLC or panel over RS485 or RS232, or into an access controller over Wiegand 26/34, and let the relay's COM/NO/NC contacts drive your gate or lock logic.
  • Size one read zone. Fix the SY702 along a shelf lip, under a tray or inside a drawer, fill it with tagged items and adjust the output between 0 and 26 dBm until the tags in that zone read and the ones beside it stay silent.
  • Decide who starts the read. Active mode has the board read and push tags by itself; passive mode leaves your host in charge, issuing commands. Run the prototype both ways to see which suits your controller, and ask us how trigger mode is fed before you design around it.

One port, one read zone: planning your RM26 build

The RM26 has a single SMA antenna port, so the kit proves one read zone at a time. A cabinet with a strip in every compartment needs a port for each strip, which means a multi-port reader once the prototype works. The antenna, the cable and the tag decide how far it reads, and with the SY702 that is up to 1 m. The kit's power adapter and antenna cable get the bench test running; for the final build, plan the DC supply, the cable run and a place for the board inside your enclosure.

If you would rather mount a finished reader with the antenna built in and skip the wiring, the IF9A fixed reader kit is the simpler trial. The terminal pin-out and board details are on the IDTS-RM26 module page, and the strip's own page covers the SY702 low-gain antenna.

Typical applications

Frequently asked questions

Can the RM26 kit read several shelves at once?
Not as separate zones: the module drives one antenna. For a strip per compartment, look at the 4-port fixed readers in our UHF RFID readers range.
Does the module kit come with a power supply and an antenna cable?
Yes. The kit includes a power adapter for the board and an antenna cable to connect the SY702 to the module's SMA female port, so you can power it up and read tags on the bench straight away. For your own enclosure, the board takes DC 9–24 V at up to 4 W on its 12-pin terminal.
Is there an Identium app for the RM26?
No, there is no Identium app for this kit. Run the bench trial on ID Tech or ZKRFID software, and move to the SDK once the prototype needs reads inside your own code.
Will the board fit inside our enclosure?
It measures about 87 × 85 × 16 mm, has 3 mm mounting holes, weighs 50 g net and is rated for −20 °C to +70 °C. Confirm the size with us before you finalise an enclosure; the SY702 strip itself is 110 × 23 mm.
Which sample tags suit a smart shelf or drawer prototype?
The ones your product will hold: on-metal hard tags for tools and metal parts, anti-liquid labels for bottles, paper labels for files and boxes. Describe what will sit in the read zone when you order, and the sample mix is matched to it.
