Overview

Test long-range active RFID on your own site

Active RFID tags carry a battery and broadcast their own ID, so a reader logs people, vehicles and assets as they pass, with no tap and no line of sight. Range on paper and range on a real campus, yard or plant are different things. This kit gives you one long-range reader and both tag styles to find out before you plan a roll-out.

What is in the kit

  • F529 outdoor reader. A 2.4 GHz base station with four directional antennas, rated up to 400 m and reporting which side each tag is on. Data goes over TCP/IP or GPRS, and a phone app sets it up over Bluetooth.
  • 2 × T505 active cards. Printable white cards for staff, contractors or visitors, read at up to 150 m.
  • 2 × AT507 rugged tags. Grey ABS tags for vehicles, equipment and outdoor assets.

Planning the trial

Mount the reader where you would install it for real, at a gate, a yard entrance or a building corner, and walk or drive the cards and tags past it. Turn the read range down in software until only the zone you care about is covered. Range depends on the tag, terrain and mounting height, so the trial shows what you will get. For short indoor zones such as doorways and school buses, look at the F530 indoor reader, and if you are still choosing a technology, read passive vs active RFID.

Frequently asked questions

What is in the active RFID evaluation kit?
One F529 outdoor active RFID reader, two T505 active RFID cards and two AT507 rugged active tags, all on 2.4 GHz.
How far does the kit read?
The F529 is rated up to 400 m directional and the T505 card up to 150 m. Range is adjustable in software and depends on the tag, terrain and mounting height, which is what the trial is for.
Can I add more tags later?
Yes. T505 cards and AT507 tags are sold separately, along with the AT508 asset tag, in the active RFID range.
How does the reader send data?
Over TCP/IP or GPRS, so it needs no data cable to a local server. A Bluetooth BLE 4.0 link lets you set it up from a phone or tablet.
