Overview

What the F530 indoor active RFID reader does

The F530 is an active RFID reader for short, controlled read zones indoors and inside vehicles. It picks up battery-powered active tags as they come close, collects their signals in real time and ties each read to its own location as a base station. Software then knows which person, vehicle or item is at that point.

Out of the box the maximum read range is 5 m (factory default). A tight zone suits doorways and bus doors, where you want to log the people passing through, not everyone in the corridor or car park.

School buses and building entrances

  • School buses: students carrying active tags are logged on board, giving the school a real-time attendance record for each trip.
  • Building entrances: staff and visitors with active cards are recorded as they enter, without stopping to tap.

Maharashtra's 2026 school-bus amendment, as reported, calls for digital attendance records; our school bus RFID attendance guide explains how an onboard system is set up.

Wireless by design

The F530 is a GPRS-based station, so it sends data over the mobile network instead of a cable to a local server. That is what makes it practical on a moving bus or at an entrance where running data cable is difficult. GPRS devices generally need a data SIM with coverage where they are installed.

Bluetooth lets a mobile app connect to the reader for configuration and testing, so installers can check reads on site.

F530 or F529?

Choose the F530 for short-range checkpoints indoors or in vehicles. For open-air coverage over hundreds of metres with direction finding, the F529 long-range active reader is built as an outdoor base station. Both read active tags, not passive UHF labels. Active cards and tags are listed in our Active RFID category; tell us the tag type and number of readers when you request a quote so the pairing can be confirmed.

Typical applications

  • School bus attendance
  • Building entrance monitoring
  • Staff presence logging
  • Visitor entry tracking
  • Indoor asset presence

Frequently asked questions

Why is the F530 read range 5 m?
5 m is the maximum at the factory default setting. That short zone suits entrances and bus doors where only people passing the reader should be logged. A short zone avoids picking up tags across a corridor, a parking area or a neighbouring bus.
Does the F530 need a network cable or a local server?
No data cable is needed. The F530 is a GPRS-based station that sends data over the mobile network, so plan for a data SIM with coverage at each installation. It still needs a power supply where it is mounted.
Can the F530 be used for school bus student attendance?
Yes, school buses are one of its most common installations. Students carry active tags or cards, the reader logs them in real time, and your attendance software turns those reads into trip records.
Is the F530 an active or a passive RFID reader?
It is an active RFID reader. It reads battery-powered active tags, not passive UHF labels (865–868 MHz in India) or 13.56 MHz HF cards. Active tags transmit their own signal, which gives continuous presence data at an entrance.
How is the F530 configured?
Over Bluetooth: a mobile app connects to the reader for configuration and testing during installation.
