A school bus tracking setup reads each student's card at three moments in the day: getting on the bus, walking through the school gate and getting off at the drop point. Speed matters at a bus door, so the system uses UHF cards that are read at a distance instead of tapped. This page lists the student cards, bus readers and gate readers we sell for that job.
Buses rarely have a network cable, so the bus reader should send its data over 4G. At school, a walk-through gate records arrivals and departures with direction. Parent alerts, route registers and exception reports come from the software described on IdentiumOne.
Issue student cards
Print each child's UHF ID card with photo, name and school details. The card number is linked to the student record in the school's system.
Fit a reader on each bus
Mount a 4G integrated UHF reader facing the bus door so boarding and getting off are both recorded. Position and settings should be chosen so the reader covers the doorway rather than the street outside.
Read at the school gate
A walk-through UHF gate at the entrance records every card that passes, with in or out direction, to mark arrival and departure.
Act on exceptions
The software compares bus and gate reads and alerts the transport desk when a child who boarded has not passed the gate.
Student ID card
Printed UHF cards in CR80 size carry photo, name and a QR code or barcode, printed on one or both sides. Plain IDTS-IDC62 cards suit schools that print their own. Read range is 1–5 m depending on the reader and antenna.
Bus door reader
The IF9A-4G integrated reader has a 9 dBi antenna built in and a micro SIM slot that pushes reads directly to a cloud server, so the bus needs no LAN or Wi-Fi.
School gate
The HLR200 walk-through gate reads many cards at once across a read zone of up to 4 m and uses built-in in/out sensors to tell arrivals from departures.
Card enrolment desk
The UDR-111 USB desktop reader (0–50 cm) reads and writes card numbers while students are enrolled, and can type card numbers straight into office software in keyboard mode.
Teacher roll call
The pocket UBR90H Bluetooth reader pairs with a teacher's Android or iOS phone for quick head counts on trips or during drills.
The school transport software links each card to a student, a route and a stop. It records boarding and drop-off from the bus reader, marks attendance from the gate and messages the registered parent contacts at each step. When reads do not line up, for example a child who boarded but never reached the gate, the transport desk sees the exception first. Only an ID number is written to the card, while each child's details stay in the school's own database. Read the full feature list and request a demo on IdentiumOne.
RFID school bus tracking software and parent app demo on IdentiumOneHF and LF proximity cards have to be held close to the reader, which slows boarding and depends on every child remembering to tap. UHF cards are read at a distance, so the reader picks them up as students walk past.
No. The IF9A-4G reader takes a micro SIM and sends its reads over the mobile network directly to the server.
Yes. Printed UHF cards are produced in full colour on one or both sides, with your logo, the student's photo and name, sequential numbers and a barcode or QR code.
Parent alerts, route management and reports are part of the software on IdentiumOne. The store supplies the cards and readers that feed it.
