4G UHF RFID reader that reports straight to the cloud

The IF9A-4G puts a UHF RFID reader, a 9 dBi antenna and a 4G modem in one rugged die-cast aluminium housing. Fit a data-enabled micro SIM, power it up, and tag reads go directly to your cloud server. There is no PC, router or LAN cable at the read point, which is usually the hardest and costliest part of a remote installation.

Where a 4G reader makes sense

Most fixed readers need a network drop. That is easy inside an office and expensive at the far gate of a yard, at a weighbridge, on a mine haul road or at a temporary construction site. With 4G, the only service the read point needs is power.

Read performance on site

The Impinj E710 reader chip bulk-reads up to 1,000 tags per second, and the inbuilt 9 dBi antenna gives an effective reading distance of up to 25 m. For vehicles, a windshield tag such as the UHF tamper-proof windshield label is the usual choice; actual range depends on the tag, the glass and the mounting angle. The multi-function LED glows red for power and green on each read, so a technician can check the installation without a laptop, and the optional relay output can open a boom barrier or sound a hooter locally.

Before you order

Plan three things: a micro SIM with a data plan from an operator that has a strong 4G signal at the mounting point, a server or cloud application to receive the reads, and the data format your software expects. The reader needs your server address to push data, so keep these details ready when you ask for a quote. If the site already has LAN or Wi-Fi, a wired or Wi-Fi version from the integrated readers range avoids a monthly SIM plan.
