Hardware for IDPay RFID Cashless Payments

In a closed-loop cashless venue, each guest carries a wristband or card that points to a prepaid wallet, and each stall has a reader that charges it. Festivals, water parks, stadiums, campus food courts and staff canteens all run on the same pattern: load value once, then tap to pay at every counter.

This page lists the 13.56 MHz wristbands and cards, the readers and the receipt printer from our catalogue that fit a tap-to-pay setup. The payment platform itself, IDPay, is built by Identium One, and the link below leads to its features and a demo.

How it works

  1. 1

    Issue the wristband

At the entry or top-up counter, staff link each wristband or card to a wallet using an HF desktop reader-writer.

  2. 2

    Load a balance

Guests add value at a top-up counter. The balance is held against that wallet in the IDPay platform.

  3. 3

Tap to pay at the stall

The vendor holds an NFC handheld close to the wristband and confirms the sale. A pocket Bluetooth printer can hand over a receipt.

  4. 4

    Review sales and settle

Organisers follow sales by stall and by hour as the event runs, then settle with each vendor from the per-stall reports.

Hardware you need

Silicone wristbands for repeat use

The ID-SW-HR002 is a 13.56 MHz ISO 14443A silicone band with MIFARE Classic, MIFARE DESFire or NTAG chip options and an IP68 rating, suited to water parks and multi-day passes. The C02 watch-style band comes in an HF MIFARE version; order that one for payments.

All Silicone RFID Wristbands

Single-use wristbands for one-day events

A PVC band with a one-time locking snap, or a woven fabric band with a chip card. Both come in LF, HF and UHF builds, so specify the HF 13.56 MHz version for payment counters.

All Disposable RFID Wristbands

Cards for staff and season passes

CR80 NFC cards with NTAG, MIFARE Classic or MIFARE DESFire chips, for staff, vendors and regular visitors who prefer a card to a band.

All HF Cards

Stall reader

The FX100 is a pocket Android handheld that reads 13.56 MHz NFC credentials and carries a SAM slot and a secure element, so vendors can charge wristbands at the counter or on the move. Agree the wristband chip with our team so that bands and stall readers match.

All HF RFID Readers

Top-up and issue counter

A USB HF desktop reader-writer with a 0 to 5 cm read range, for linking wristbands to wallets and handling top-ups at a fixed counter.

All HF RFID Readers

Receipt printer

The CX58B is a battery-powered thermal receipt printer that connects over Bluetooth 4.0 or USB, for printing receipts at a stall away from a power socket.

The software

IDPay is the platform behind the wristbands. Organisers set up the event, its zones and its vendors; each guest wristband points to a prepaid wallet that is loaded before or during the event; vendors charge it from handheld or counter readers; and sales by stall and by hour appear on a live dashboard, with settlement reports for each vendor. Guests can see their balance and what they have spent from their phone. This store also lists an RFID event management system with entry control and cashless POS for organisers who want to buy the system together with wristbands. Why teams use it

  • Stalls stop handling cash, which keeps counters simple to run and to reconcile.
  • The short HF tap range keeps each charge to the wristband held at the reader.
  • One wristband can carry both the entry pass and the wallet.
  • Wristbands can carry the event logo and colours.
  • Organisers see sales by stall while the event is still running.

Frequently asked questions

Should cashless wristbands be HF or UHF?

HF at 13.56 MHz. A payment should only charge the wristband that is held to the reader, and the short HF read range suits that. UHF bands read from a distance and belong at walk-through entry lanes, not at payment counters.

Which wristband suits a one-day event, and which a season?

For a single day, a PVC band with a one-time locking snap or a fabric band, both in the HF version. For staff, members and season passes, a silicone band such as the ID-SW-HR002 or the C02, or an NFC card.

What does each stall need?

A handheld that reads 13.56 MHz wristbands, such as the Android FX100 NFC reader, plus an optional Bluetooth receipt printer such as the CX58B. Top-up counters can use a USB HF desktop reader-writer.

Where can I see the IDPay software?

IDPay has its own page on IdentiumOne, where its features are described and a demo can be requested. For entry control combined with cashless POS, this store also lists the RFID Event Management System.
