In most Indian cities the first RFID project is a shop floor or a store. In Hyderabad it is very often a pharmaceutical warehouse. The city has one of the country's densest concentrations of formulation, API, biologics and vaccine capacity, and those plants run on batch-level traceability, GMP documentation and an audit trail that has to satisfy a regulator.
That changes the shopping list before a single tag is quoted. A Hyderabad pharma buyer needs a label that a thermal-transfer printer can print and encode in one pass, that survives a shrink-wrapped pallet in a dispatch bay, and that lets a carton be reconciled against a batch number without cutting the wrap open. Comparing price per tag, retail-style, is the wrong first question here.
Pharma warehouses and batch traceability in Jeedimetla and Bollaram
In a GMP warehouse, RFID replaces the line-of-sight barcode scan where scanning is slowest: goods receipt, the quarantine-to-release status change, pallet build and dispatch verification. Each shipper carton carries a printed and encoded UHF label, and a dock portal confirms a whole pallet in seconds instead of carton by carton.
The detail that decides the project is label construction. Corrugated cartons, blister-pack cases and HDPE drums behave differently at 865–868 MHz, and a drum-heavy API store needs a different inlay, often with a spacer, than a flat-carton store. Cold chain: Genome Valley biotech and Shamshabad air cargo
Cold-chain RFID in Hyderabad does two separate jobs, and buyers often mix them up. The first is identification inside cold rooms and freezers: knowing what sits on which rack at 2–8 °C or −20 °C without someone standing in the cold counting boxes. The second is temperature evidence: showing that a consignment bound for the Shamshabad air-cargo terminal never had an excursion.
For identification, adhesive and face stock decide everything. An ordinary paper label lifts off condensation-wet cartons moving between a chilled room and a summer loading dock. For evidence you need RFID temperature sensor tags that log the temperature profile of a specific pallet. These cost far more than plain labels, so budget the two lines separately.
IT-asset audits across HITEC City and Gachibowli
The other major source of RFID demand in Hyderabad is not manufacturing at all, but the IT corridor. A global capability centre here may hold tens of thousands of laptops, docks, monitors and switches across several towers, with a parent-company audit calendar that demands a verified physical count.
With barcodes that means one person, one asset, one line of sight, floor after floor. With RFID an auditor walks the floor and reads racks, cabinets and desk clusters in bulk. Because nearly all of these assets are metal-backed, the tag has to be an on-metal type; a plain label on a laptop lid will not read reliably. The usual set-up is a small on-metal tag per asset plus a UHF RFID handheld reader per audit team.
Hospitals, diagnostics labs and linen
Hyderabad's large multi-speciality hospital groups, and the diagnostics chains around them, use RFID for four things:

Hyderabad's pearl trade has no real parallel in another Indian city, and its RFID requirement follows from the product: very small items, very high value per gram, and opening and closing counts that a family-run showroom cannot spend hours on.

Which band and approvals apply to a Hyderabad installation
UHF RFID in India operates at 865–868 MHz, licence-free within the power limits notified under G.S.R. 853(E), and Telangana is no exception. Any fixed reader installed in a Hyderabad plant should be an India-band unit with WPC Equipment Type Approval, not a 902–928 MHz reader imported for the US market.
This matters more than most buyers expect. Pharma, vaccine and defence sites in Hyderabad are audited routinely, and an auditor asking for the radio approval of the reader at your dispatch dock is an expensive problem if the unit is grey-market. - Start from your actual material. Tell us, with photos, whether the tag goes on a carton, a drum, a laptop or a sample tray. Read behaviour is decided by what the tag sits on.
- Order samples before the bulk run. It is better to test a few constructions on your own pallets with RFID samples than to commit to fifty thousand of the wrong tag.
- State the environment. Freezer, autoclave, solvent wash, outdoor yard or bare metal: each one rules out most of the catalogue.
- Say what your auditor will ask for. If the reader has to clear a GMP or defence site review, ask for its WPC ETA and BIS documents with the quote, not six months later.
