RFID Hardware for Warehouse Receiving, Picking and Dispatch

In a warehouse, RFID does its most useful work at the points where goods change hands: the dock door, the rack and the packing bench. Tagged cartons and pallets are read as they pass a reader, so receiving and dispatch checks no longer depend on scanning one barcode at a time.

Below are the readers, antennas, labels, pallet tags, handhelds and printers from our catalogue that a typical warehouse rollout uses, grouped by where they sit. The software that turns those reads into stock movements is covered on IdentiumOne.

How it works

  1. 1

Label at source or at goods-in

Print and encode a UHF label for each carton, and fix a reusable hard tag to each pallet or plastic crate, ideally before the goods reach your dock.

  2. 2

    Read at the dock door

A fixed 4-port reader with antennas on both sides of the door reads tagged cartons and pallets as they go in or out, and the software checks them against the expected list.

  3. 3

    Check in the aisles

Staff use a handheld reader to confirm put-away, verify picks and run cycle counts without taking stock off the shelf.

  4. 4

    Reconcile in your WMS

Reads flow to your warehouse system, which confirms receipts, flags short or wrong shipments and closes the dispatch.

Hardware you need

Dock door reader

The IHZ4 is a 4-port fixed reader built on the Impinj E710 chip and offered in an 865–868 MHz version for India. One unit can drive the antennas around a dock door and read cartons and pallets as a forklift or trolley passes.

Dock door antennas

Fit a RUCA9 9 dBi circular antenna either side of the door for a broad read zone. The 12 dBi model has a narrower beam for longer, more focused zones such as a conveyor exit.

Carton labels

The ID-1470 H10 is a printable carton label rated for up to 8 m in open air. The 1642-U8 warehouse label is another printable option, with a rated range of up to 6 m that varies with antenna and surroundings.

Pallet and crate tags

The IDTS-UPT hard tag is made for pallets and plastic crates that circulate again and again, and is rated to read at up to 12 m with a 2 W ERP reader.

Handheld reader

The CX1500N Android handheld covers the jobs fixed readers cannot: put-away checks, pick verification, cycle counts and hunting for a missing carton.

Label printer-encoder

The iX4R industrial printer prints the visible label and writes the UHF chip in a single pass, which matters once goods-in labels are produced in volume.

The software

Tag reads only become stock movements when software matches them to the work in hand. The IdentiumOne warehouse platform takes reads from dock doors and handhelds, uses them to confirm goods-in, put-away, picks and dispatch, and puts exceptions on a dashboard while the vehicle is still at the door. It works with the WMS or ERP you already run instead of replacing it. See IdentiumOne for integration options and to book a demo.

Why teams use it

  • Read tagged cartons and pallets as they cross the dock door
  • Catch short or wrong shipments before the vehicle leaves
  • Cycle counts without unpacking racks
  • Start with one dock door and add more when ready
  • Readers, antennas, tags, printers and handhelds from one catalogue

Frequently asked questions

Which tag should I use for cartons and which for pallets?

Use a printable UHF label such as the ID-1470 H10 on cartons, since it goes through the printer-encoder and leaves with the box. Use a hard tag such as the IDTS-UPT on pallets and crates that come back and are reused.

Do I need a fixed reader at every dock door?

Fixed readers give automatic reads at the doors where you install them. Quieter doors can start with a handheld and get a fixed reader later, and piloting a single door first is a sensible way to begin.

Are these readers set for the Indian UHF band?

The IHZ4 and the CX1500N are both offered in 865–868 MHz versions for India. They are also made for other regions, so confirm the band on your order.

Where do I get the warehouse software?

The hardware is sold here. The warehouse application and its link to your WMS or ERP are scoped by the IdentiumOne team, who can also show you a demo.
