RFID solutions using Hospital & Patient RFID Wristbands
A patient wristband with an RFID chip lets staff confirm identity by scanning the band instead of reading a handwritten name: at admission, at the bedside, in the lab and at the pharmacy counter. All three bands here are disposable PVC with a tamper-proof closure, so a band stays on one patient from admission to discharge and is then cut off and discarded.
The UHF RFID Patient Wristband for Adults carries an Alien Higgs 3 EPC Gen2 chip, so it can be read by handhelds and by fixed UHF readers at ward, lab and theatre doors.
The UHF RFID Wristband for Infants and Newborns puts the same chip in a small band, for newborn ID, mother–baby matching and nursery exit monitoring.
The NFC / HF Hospital Wristband uses a 13.56 MHz chip (NTAG213, MIFARE Ultralight, MIFARE Classic 1K or ICODE) for tap checks with a desk reader or an NFC-enabled device.
| Feature | UHF patient bands | NFC / HF patient band |
|---|---|---|
| How it is read | At a distance, by fixed, desktop or handheld UHF readers | By a tap on an HF reader or NFC-enabled phone or tablet |
| Best for | Tracking movement through doors, infant security, ward headcounts | Bedside identity and medication checks where a deliberate tap is wanted |
| Chip | Alien Higgs 3, EPC Gen2, 512-bit user memory | NTAG203/213, MIFARE Ultralight, MIFARE Classic 1K or ICODE |
| Versions | Adult and infant | One band, chip chosen at order |
Hospitals whose nurses already carry NFC phones or tablets on rounds often start with NFC. Hospitals planning door readers or an infant security system need UHF, because it reads without a tap.
Bands can be custom printed with your hospital logo and variable data such as serial numbers, barcodes and QR codes, and the chip can be pre-encoded to match. At admission, staff link that number to the patient record in your HIS. Bands come in blue, red, green, yellow, orange and white, which can be used for ward or risk colour-coding. The material is soft, non-allergic PVC that is dust and water proof.
For patient safety, equipment tracking and pharmacy uses beyond wristbands, read RFID in healthcare and hospitals.
