Overview

UHF RFID wristband for adult patient identification

This adult band pairs a printed patient wristband with an Alien Higgs 3 UHF chip. UHF tags can be read from a distance rather than tapped, so one band does two jobs: confirming identity at the bedside with a handheld reader, and recording when a patient passes a fixed reader at a ward, lab or theatre door.

From admission to discharge

  1. Admission. Bands can be supplied printed with your logo and a barcode or QR number, and pre-encoded on request. The band’s ID is linked to the patient record at registration.
  2. During the stay. Staff scan the band before medication, tests or transfers; doorway readers log movement between departments.
  3. Discharge. The tamper-proof band is cut off and discarded, never reused.

Comfort and security

The strap is soft, non-allergic PVC and is dust and water proof. Once fastened, the button or adhesive closure cannot be undone and refitted on someone else without showing. Bands come in several sizes and six standard colours, packed 250 to a roll.

Reading UHF bands on people

The human body absorbs UHF energy, so a worn band reads at a shorter distance than a tag in free air; test reader positions before a ward-wide rollout. A CX1500N UHF handheld reader suits bedside checks. For newborns, use the infant UHF wristband.

Typical applications

  • Inpatient identification
  • Patient movement tracking
  • Access control
  • Cashless payments
  • Event entry
  • Race timing

Frequently asked questions

What frequency does the adult UHF wristband use in India?
Its Alien Higgs 3 chip works across 860–960 MHz, which covers India’s licence-exempt 865–868 MHz band (G.S.R. 853(E), 2021). A UHF reader set to the Indian band can read it.
Is the adult wristband tamper-proof?
Yes. The button or adhesive closure is tamper-proof, so once fastened the band cannot be removed and put on another person without visible damage.
How far away can the wristband be read?
That depends on the reader, the antenna and how the band sits on the wrist, because the body absorbs UHF energy. Request a sample and test it at your doorway or bedside reader before ordering in volume.
Can the band be printed and pre-encoded?
Yes. It can carry your logo, text, variable barcodes, QR codes and data sets, and can be pre-encoded on request. The chip can also be customised to match an existing system.
Can the wristband be reused for another patient?
No. It is a disposable, single-patient band. The tamper-proof closure means it is cut off at discharge and thrown away.
