Washable RFID Tags and Readers for Linen and Uniform Tracking

Linen goes missing a few pieces at a time at every hand-off: ward to laundry, laundry to hotel, locker room to wash. With a washable UHF tag in each sheet, towel or uniform, a reader can count a loaded cart in one pass, so each hand-off has a figure both sides can check.

This page covers the laundry tags, gate and conveyor readers, and handhelds in our range, with notes on which tag suits which textile. The software that keeps the counts and the history of each piece runs on IdentiumOne.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tag each item once

Sew, iron on or attach a washable UHF tag to every piece of linen or uniform and register it against its type, size and owner.

  2. 2

    Count carts at each hand-off

Wheel soiled and clean carts through a gate reader, or run items past a conveyor read point, so pieces are counted in and out without unfolding the load.

  3. 3

Check and issue on the floor

Use a handheld for spot counts, linen-room audits and issuing uniforms to named staff.

  4. 4

    Review losses and wash history

The software compares what left with what came back and keeps a history per item, showing where stock disappears and which pieces are due for replacement.

Hardware you need

Sew-in and iron-on textile tags

The ID-L5012 is a slim 50 × 12 mm sew-in tag for hems and seams on sheets, towels and uniforms, and the ID-L5012-I is the same size for heat-press fitting. The UFLT-5610 is a flexible textile tag on the NXP UCODE 8 chip.

Silicone and button tags

The ID-SLT-5512 silicone tag suits tunnel washers and heavier processing. The coin-shaped button tag is IP68 and rated for 200+ industrial washes at 60–95 °C; order its UHF version to match the readers here.

Gate reader for carts

The HLR200 walk-through gate reads many tags together in a zone of up to 4 m, and its built-in sensors tell an inbound cart from an outbound one, which suits a laundry doorway.

Conveyor and sorting-table read points

For sorting tables and conveyors, an IHZ4 4-port reader drives one or more RUCA9 9 dBi panel antennas placed above or beside the line.

Handheld reader

The CX1500N handheld handles linen-room audits, spot counts of a single shelf or cart, and uniform issue to staff.

The software

Counting tags is the easy part; making sense of the counts is the job of the IdentiumOne laundry platform. It holds the item register, records every in and out count at each read point, compares soiled-out against clean-back by department or customer, and keeps a wash history for each piece so worn items can be retired on evidence rather than guesswork. Visit IdentiumOne for the workflow in detail and to request a demo.

Frequently asked questions

Which laundry tag should I choose for hotel linen and which for uniforms?

Slim sew-in or iron-on textile tags suit flat linen such as sheets and towels. Garments and uniforms often take a button tag, and silicone tags suit items that go through tunnel washers. If you are unsure, send your fabric type and wash process to the team so the tag can be matched before you order.

Can I iron tags on instead of sewing them?

Yes. Iron-on versions such as the ID-L5012-I are fitted with a heat press. Choose between sewing and heat pressing based on your fabric and how the items are processed; each product page lists its fixing method.

Which readers work with these laundry tags?

The textile and silicone tags here are UHF EPC Gen2, so they work with UHF handhelds such as the CX1500N and with fixed UHF readers set to 865–868 MHz. The button tag is also made in an HF version, so choose the UHF one for these readers.

Where do I get the laundry software?

Tags and readers are ordered from this store. The laundry management software and its set-up come through IdentiumOne, which can also give you a demo.
