Overview

A UHF RFID desktop kit for reading and encoding at one PC

Much RFID work starts at a desk: writing numbers into labels before they go on cartons, files or equipment, and checking that a tag reads before you order thousands. This kit puts the UDR-111 desktop reader-writer and a pack of UHF sample labels on that desk. The reader takes power and data from one USB cable, so there is no adapter to find.

What to try with the kit

  • Read into your own screen. In keyboard mode the reader types each tag number wherever the cursor is, in Excel, a web form or your ERP, with no programming.
  • Encode sample labels. Use the free demonstration software to write your own EPC numbers into the labels and read them back.
  • Keep the read zone tight. Turn the RF output down so only the label on the reader answers, or up to check a small bundle.
  • Build it into your software. The SDK lets developers add reading and encoding to their own application.

What the UDR-111 suits

Read distance is 0–50 cm depending on the label, which suits encoding desks, issue counters and goods-inward checks at one fixed point. It will not count a shelf or a room; for that, the CX1000 handheld kit reads at up to 6 m. The 103 desktop reader kit runs the same Identium Desktop Reader app with the 103 reader, and the guide to RFID scanning into Excel covers keyboard mode in more depth.

Where the 111UDR-EVK is used

  • Label encoding desks
  • Tag testing before a roll-out
  • Goods-inward checks
  • Billing counter reads
  • Card and tag issuing
