Overview

What the handheld RFID inventory evaluation kit is for

This kit settles one practical question before you spend on a full system: will a handheld UHF reader count your stock faster and more completely than barcodes or a manual tally? You get the same CX1500N you would use in a roll-out, sample labels chosen for your stock, and CX Flow Pro already on the device, so counting starts without installing anything.

Running a count trial with CX Flow Pro

A useful trial in CX Flow Pro follows a real cycle count, on a section small enough to check by hand:

  1. Tag a test section. Tag a set of items on one rack, rail or tray with the sample labels and count them by hand, so you have a true figure.
  2. Sweep it. Run a bulk count and see whether the unique tag total matches your manual figure; RSSI and per-tag read counts show which labels the reader hears only faintly.
  3. Limit the zone. Move one tagged item to the next rack and lower the power until it leaves the count, showing how closely sections can sit.
  4. Reconcile against a list. Load the EPCs for that section as a pick list, take a few items away and scan again: the missing ones should be exactly the items you removed.
  5. Find a stray. Hide one item elsewhere and time how long the radar and quickening beep take to lead you to it.

Save each session and export it to Excel or PDF, so the results sit next to your current count figures. If counts must reach your own system, point Auto Mode at a test URL and check that every read lands, or check that keyboard emulation types the reads into a text field in another app. To prepare tags for a roll-out, the same app reads, writes, locks or destroys tag memory, and AISense can pick reader settings for the job you describe.

Aisles and trays: when a handheld RFID kit fits

Choose it if people will walk the aisles with a reader: warehouse cycle counts, store audits, jewellery tray checks. The CX1500N works on its own, with 4G data, Wi-Fi, a 1D/2D barcode imager and a 10,000 mAh battery, so no phone or PC is needed during a count.

It is the wrong choice if goods should be read automatically as they pass a dock door or conveyor; the IF9A fixed reader kit is made for that. If counts happen at one counter or shelf and staff already carry Android phones, the MUBR01 Bluetooth kit is a lighter trial; all four are compared under RFID evaluation kits. Full reader specs are on the CX1500N handheld page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a phone or a PC to run the CX1500N kit?
No. The CX1500N is a complete handheld running IDOS, with CX Flow Pro already on it. Counts, searches and Excel or PDF exports all happen on the device; you only need a server of your own if you want Auto Mode to post reads to it.
Can I check my existing stock list against what the reader finds?
Yes. In CX Flow Pro's bulk tracking, paste the EPCs (or EPC and asset name pairs) or upload the list as an .xlsx or .csv file, then scan. The app separates found items from missing ones.
Which sample labels suit an apparel or jewellery stock count?
For garments, apparel or fabric labels; for jewellery, jewellery labels on the pieces or trays; for the rest of a store or warehouse, carton labels, anti-liquid labels for bottles or on-metal hard tags. The sample mix is confirmed with your order once you tell us the item types.
Can the CX1500N send scans to our own software?
Yes. Auto Mode in CX Flow Pro posts reads by HTTP POST to a URL you set, and Auto RFID in IDOS posts background reads to your webhook, buffering them when the device is offline. Keyboard emulation types reads into another app, and an SDK and demo app are available if you want to build your own Android app.
Does the handheld also scan barcodes?
Yes, it has a 1D/2D barcode imager. CX Code Scanner on IDOS adds barcode and QR scans to a session and exports them to Excel, which is useful while only part of your stock carries RFID tags.
The trial worked. How do we order tags in volume?
Note the label or tag that read best on each item type, then send the quantities through bulk RFID pricing for a quote. The CX1500N from the kit can carry on as your first production handheld.
