Overview

Who the Bluetooth RFID reader evaluation kit suits

Most shop floors already have Android phones; what they lack is a UHF radio. The MUBR01 kit adds one in a pocket-sized reader with one control button and three indicator lights, so you can try RFID at a shop counter, an FMCG shelf, a jewellery tray or a records room on a device your staff already know. You supply the Android device, and the MUBR01 app on it drives the reader over Bluetooth LE.

Testing with the MUBR01 app

Pair the reader from the app's scan screen and start an inventory. The read count and RSSI next to each EPC tell you at a glance whether a tag on a foil-wrapped pack or a chain tray is being heard, or only just.

  • Find both read zones. Count a single tray at low power, then raise the power and count the whole shelf, noting the point where neighbouring trays start to creep in. Save the setting that works to the reader's flash so it holds for the next session.
  • Button or screen. Compare active mode, where a trigger pull on the reader starts the read, with passive mode, where the app polls, and see which your staff prefer at a busy counter.
  • Share a count. Export the tag list to Excel and compare it with your billing or ERP stock figures.
  • Try it in your own software. Open your billing or stock screen on the phone and check that keyboard mode puts each tag number in the right field, so you know whether you will need the SDK at all.
  • Set up tags. Write your own codes to the sample tags, and lock or kill a tag with a password.

Counter and shelf checks: when the Bluetooth reader kit fits

The MUBR01 reads at 0–3 m and at 50 tags per second or more, which fits close work: a shelf, a counter, a tray, a carton of files. It is not meant for sweeping a warehouse aisle from a distance; for that, the CX1500N inventory kit with its 0–25 m stated range is the better trial. If you only want a first look at UHF on a phone, with no battery to charge, the UCR10 starter kit plugs straight into USB-C.

Developers who want their own app rather than the MUBR01 app can start from the SDK and demo apps. Our guide to scanning RFID into Excel with keyboard mode explains the keyboard approach, and full specs are on the MUBR01 reader page.

Typical applications

  • FMCG shelf checks
  • Retail counter stock
  • Jewellery tray counts
  • File and document tracking
  • Store backroom checks

Frequently asked questions

Is a phone included in the Bluetooth kit?
No. You pair the MUBR01 with your own Android phone or tablet running 4.3 or later, over Bluetooth 4.0 BLE. The MUBR01 app is an Android app, so plan the trial around an Android device.
Can scanned tags go straight into our billing or ERP screen?
Yes, through the keyboard wedge: enable the Identium RFID keyboard on the phone, put the cursor in the field, and each scanned EPC is typed in as if keyed by hand. For a deeper link, the SDK and demo apps cover Java, Kotlin and .NET MAUI.
Is a 0–3 m range enough for jewellery and FMCG checks?
Check it on your densest display rather than your easiest one. Where tags sit packed together, compare the app's unique count with a hand count at the power you plan to use; if the two match there, range is not your limit.
Which sample tags suit FMCG shelves, jewellery trays or files?
Labels for FMCG cartons, anti-liquid labels for bottles, jewellery labels for trays and pieces, or paper labels for files. The sample mix is confirmed with your order, so tell us what you will tag.
