Overview

An Android RFID handheld kit for indoor stock and asset counts

This kit is for teams that count indoors: a shop floor, a pharmacy store, a records room, a floor of office equipment. It puts the CX1000, an Android 12 handheld with 4G that reads tags at up to 6 m, in the hands of the people who already do those counts, so you can judge the routine on your own shelves and registers rather than on a datasheet.

Three jobs to try in CX Flow Pro

  • Sweep a shop or pharmacy bay. Label one bay of stock, run a bulk inventory and check the unique count against what the bay should hold. Read counts and RSSI per tag point to labels the handheld only just hears, often small ones on bottles or foil packs. When a customer asks for an item the count says is there, enter its EPC and let the radar, the FOUND % reading and the quickening Geiger-style beep lead you to the pack.
  • Reconcile a register room by room. In a records room or on an office floor, load that room's share of the asset register from a spreadsheet or a pasted EPC list and walk the room. The found and missing split shows which files or assets are not where the register puts them. Save each room as its own session and export it to Excel or PDF for the audit file.
  • Send a branch count to head office. Point Auto Mode at a test URL on your server and run a count at a branch: each read is posted over the handheld's 4G connection, so head office can check it without anyone carrying a file back. If another app on the handheld should receive the tag numbers instead, the keyboard emulator types them into it.

CX1000 or CX1500N: matching the handheld to your floor

Treat 6 m as the stated ceiling and measure what your own stock gives you: note the distance at which your smallest label, a tag near metal and a bottled item each drop out of the count. If those distances cover the shelving in your rooms, the CX1000 is enough for the job.

If stock sits on high racking or across a large warehouse, or you want Identium's IDOS on the handheld, trial the CX1500N inventory kit, with its stated 0–25 m range; CX Flow Pro runs there too. Full handheld details are on the CX1000 reader page, and all seven kits sit side by side under RFID evaluation kits.

Typical applications

Frequently asked questions

Which app runs the CX1000 trial?
CX Flow Pro, Identium's RFID data-capture app, with no licence fee. The CX1500N runs the same app on the same reader SDK, so if you later add CX1500N handhelds for high racking, staff carry on with a routine they already know.
Can we give the sample labels our own asset numbers?
Yes. CX Flow Pro reads, writes and locks tags, so you can write your item or asset numbers onto the sample labels before they go on, then lock them so the numbers are not overwritten by mistake.
What if we would rather use our own app?
Developers can build an Android 12 app on the CX1000's SDK and demonstration app, and use CX Flow Pro during the trial as the reference for what the handheld should do. If all you need is reads on your server, Auto Mode's HTTP POST may cover it without a custom app.
Which sample labels suit a shop or pharmacy count?
Apparel labels for garments on shop rails, anti-liquid labels for bottled pharmacy stock, carton labels for boxed goods and on-metal hard tags for anything with a metal body. Name what you will count and we confirm the sample mix with your order. The samples are UHF, so confirm the handheld's 865–868 MHz India band setting when you order as well.
