Overview

What the IDTS-RM26 UHF RFID reader module does

The IDTS-RM26 is a UHF RFID reader on a bare board, for integrators who build the reader into their own gate controller, cabinet or machine. It is a split module: the board carries the reader electronics and one SMA female antenna port, and you connect a separate UHF antenna chosen for the read zone. It reads and writes ISO 18000-6C (EPC Gen2) tags.

Read distance therefore depends on the antenna, its cable and the tag, not on the board alone. Pick an antenna from the RFID antenna range and test with your own tags.

Interfaces, Wiegand output and relay

  • Ethernet (TCP/IP, RJ45): sends reads to a PC or server on the site network.
  • RS232 and RS485: serial links to a controller, PLC or panel; RS485 suits longer cable runs.
  • Wiegand 26/34: the output most access controllers accept from a card reader, so a tag read reaches the controller the way a card number does.
  • Relay (COM/NO/NC): one contact set to trigger a boom barrier or gate opener. Wire it to the barrier or gate controller's open input, and ask us before switching a load directly.

Three work modes: active (it reads and reports on its own), passive (it reads when host software sends a command) and trigger (confirm with us how the trigger is fed: the 12-pin terminal lists no trigger input). LEDs and a buzzer show status.

Frequency, read zone and software

In India, order the 865–868 MHz version and use EPC Gen2 tags made for the same band: UHF tags are tuned to a band, and one made for 902–928 MHz usually reads shorter here. Turning the output power down keeps reads inside one lane on a multi-lane site. It is compatible with ID Tech and ZKRFID software; for your own application, use the SDK.

How it differs from the ICL1P, ICL4P and ICL8 boards

BoardAntenna portsListed connectivityMade for
IDTS-RM261 (SMA)Ethernet, RS232, RS485, Wiegand 26/34, relayAccess control: parking lanes, gates, barriers
ICL1P1Wi-Fi, COM port or network; Bluetooth and 4G optionalSingle read points
ICL4P4Wi-Fi, PoE, COM port or network; Bluetooth and 4G optionalWide portals or up to four read points
ICL88Wi-Fi, PoE, COM port or network; Bluetooth and 4G optionalMulti-lane sites and conveyor lines

Choose the IDTS-RM26 to feed an existing access controller or switch a barrier; choose an ICL board from the RFID modules range for Wi-Fi, PoE (ICL4P and ICL8) or several antennas on one controller. If you would rather not source a separate antenna, a boxed reader from the integrated RFID readers range is simpler to install.

Typical applications

  • Parking entry and exit
  • Vehicle access control
  • Boom barriers and gates
  • Tool cabinets
  • OEM equipment
  • RFID development kits

Frequently asked questions

Which antenna should I use with the IDTS-RM26?
Any UHF RFID antenna rated for 865–868 MHz, connected by coaxial cable to the board's single SMA female port; no antenna is included. For a compact indoor read point such as a tool cabinet or a machine, a panel like the 8 dBi IDTS-RA8190 suits; its connector is listed as SMA female, like the board's, so confirm the cable ends with us. For an outdoor parking lane, use a weatherproof antenna such as the IP67 9 dBi RUCA9, which has an N female connector and needs an N-to-SMA cable. No IP rating is listed for the board itself, so mount it inside the barrier or controller cabinet and run the coax out to the antenna. Tell us the antenna and cable length and we will confirm the connectors in the quotation.
Which frequency version should I order for India?
The 865–868 MHz version. That is the licence-exempt UHF RFID band in India under G.S.R. 853(E), 2021. The 902–928 MHz version is meant for other regions, such as the Americas, so tell us the country of use if you are buying for export. Use EPC Gen2 (ISO 18000-6C) tags made for the same band.
Which software works with the IDTS-RM26?
It is compatible with ID Tech and ZKRFID software. If you want tag reads inside your own application, an SDK is available for secondary development. Our guide to RFID software and middleware explains how tag reads reach an ERP or WMS.
How do I power and wire the module?
Use a DC 9–24 V supply (consumption up to 4 W) on pin 1 (+12V) and pin 2 (GND) of the 12-pin 3.81 mm terminal. The other pins are 3 TXD and 4 RXD for RS232, 5 485− and 6 485+ for RS485, 7 GND, 8 D0 and 9 D1 for Wiegand, and 10 COM, 11 NO and 12 NC for the relay. Ethernet connects through the RJ45 socket and the antenna through the SMA port. The board has 3 mm mounting holes; ask us for the hole positions before you design an enclosure.
Can it work with my existing access controller and boom barrier?
Usually, if the controller has a Wiegand 26 or 34 reader input: connect D0, D1 and GND, and the controller receives each tag read as it would a card number. The relay's COM/NO/NC contacts can trigger a barrier or gate controller. For vehicle access, pair the module with windshield tags such as the UHF tamper-proof windshield label. For staff at a gate or tool cabinet, ISO 18000-6C cards from the UHF cards range work the same way.
