Overview
What the ID-BLE-T01 BLE asset tag does
The ID-BLE-T01 is a thin Bluetooth Low Energy beacon for things you need to find, count or check in: laptops and IT equipment, instruments, returnable items and guard-tour checkpoints. It broadcasts an iBeacon, Eddystone or custom packet every 3 s by default (adjustable from 100 ms to 10 s) on the licence-exempt 2.4 GHz band, and reaches up to 70 m in open space at 0 dBm.
How the tag is read
- Gateways: ID-BGW-02 BLE gateways pick up the broadcasts and forward them over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or 4G to your server. Signal strength (RSSI) seen by nearby gateways places each tag in a zone, to roughly 10 m.
- Phones: apps on iOS 7.0+ and Android 4.3+ can detect the tag for attendance check-ins, patrol points and proximity messages.
The T01 is an RSSI tag and is not listed for AOA positioning. If you need sub-metre location from a tag with the same 25 × 44 mm footprint, look at the AOA-capable ID-BLE-A07.
Choosing a version
The standard T01 is a plain iBeacon tag. The T01-K adds an anti-tamper function for assets someone might strip the tag from, and the T01-KA adds an accelerometer sensor as well, for motion data.
Battery and installation
The 225 mAh CR2032 cell is rated for about 3 years at 0 dBm and a 10 s interval; a shorter interval or higher power uses it faster. The cell is replaceable in the field, and the tag sticks on with 3M double-sided adhesive. The Identium Connect app sets the broadcast interval and transmit power; it can connect to the tag while the interval is below 1 s. How is the ID-BLE-T01 read?
By ID-BGW-02 BLE gateways, which forward its broadcasts to your server over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or 4G for zone-level (RSSI) location, or by an app on an iOS 7.0+ or Android 4.3+ phone. It sends standard iBeacon and Eddystone frames.
What range and battery life should I plan for?
Up to 70 m in open space at 0 dBm; walls, metal and people shorten this indoors. The 225 mAh CR2032 is rated about 3 years at 0 dBm / 10 s, and a faster interval or higher power reduces that. The cell is replaceable.
What is the difference between T01, T01-K and T01-KA?
T01 is the standard iBeacon tag. T01-K is the anti-tamper version, and T01-KA adds an accelerometer sensor to the anti-tamper version.
Can the T01 be used for sub-metre AOA positioning?
No, it is not listed as AOA-capable. For sub-metre positioning with ID-AOA-GW25 anchors, choose an AOA tag such as the ID-BLE-A07 (same 44 × 25 mm footprint) or the larger ID-BLE-A20.
How do I change its settings?
With the Identium Connect mobile app or OTA tools. The app connection is password-protected and is available when the broadcast interval is below 1 s; the tag can also be set to non-connectable.
