Overview

A BLE road stud beacon for smart-traffic marking

The ID-BLE-R09 puts a Bluetooth Low Energy beacon inside a yellow polycarbonate road stud. Fixed to the road surface, it broadcasts its identity continuously, so a Bluetooth receiver nearby, such as a smartphone running a beacon app or a gateway, can tell which marker it is closest to.

It sends iBeacon and Eddystone frames on the licence-exempt 2.4 GHz band (2400–2483.5 MHz) and reaches 100 m in open space. Transmit power (-40 to +4 dBm) and broadcast interval (default 500 ms) are set from the Identium Connect mobile app.

How road stud beacons are read

  • Phone as the receiver: an app shows which stud or marker zone the phone is nearest to. Studs can also serve as fixed markers elsewhere, for example in parking structures.
  • Gateway as the receiver: ID-BGW-02 gateways scan the studs and report over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 4G, so the platform can confirm each marker is alive and watch its battery.

The R09 is not an AOA model; it is located by RSSI proximity, which is zone-level (around 10 m).

Battery and build

An ER14250 lithium thionyl chloride cell (2400 mAh, 3.6 V) runs it for 5 years at 0 dBm / 500 ms, and the stud is rated IP67 for -40 °C to +85 °C. No load or impact rating is published, so tell us your traffic type and surface when you ask for a quote.

Need the same ER14250 cell, 5-year life (0 dBm / 500 ms) and 100 m range in a compact Ø 54 mm housing? See the ID-BLE-L01 industrial beacon, or browse all BLE beacons and asset tags.

Typical applications

  • Smart-traffic road marking
  • Fixed location reference points
  • Parking-structure markers

Frequently asked questions

Can vehicles drive over the R09?
It is built as a road stud, sealed to IP67 and fixed with AB glue or screws. A load or impact rating is not published, so tell us the traffic (cars, trucks, forklifts) and the surface when you ask for a quote and we will confirm suitability for your site.
How long does the battery last?
5 years at 0 dBm transmit power and a 500 ms broadcast interval, from its ER14250 Li-SOCl2 cell (2400 mAh, 3.6 V). Higher power or a faster interval shortens it.
What reads the road stud?
Any Bluetooth Low Energy receiver, such as a smartphone with a beacon-aware app or an ID-BGW-02 gateway, which forwards the data over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 4G using UDP, TCP or MQTT.
Does it support AOA sub-metre positioning?
No. The R09 works by RSSI proximity — the receiver knows which stud it is nearest to. For sub-metre AOA tracking, use an AOA-capable tag with ID-AOA-GW25 anchors.
Does it need a radio licence?
No. Like all our BLE beacons it operates in the licence-exempt 2.4 GHz band (2400–2483.5 MHz).
