Overview

40 mm on-metal RFID disc tag with Impinj Monza R6-P

Unlike the U8-based IDTS-D30, D33 and D38 discs, the IDTS-D40 is built on the Impinj Monza R6-P chip. Alongside the 128-bit EPC and 96-bit TID it carries 32 bits of user memory: 4 bytes, enough for a short code such as a location number or a last-service date written in the field.

Fitting and range

The black PCB disc is 40 mm across and 3 mm thick. Two 3 mm holes, 34 mm apart centre to centre, let you screw or rivet it to a cabinet door, machine frame or cylinder collar so it stays put through handling. Mounted on metal it reads at approx. 2 m, so plan for handheld scanning close to each asset rather than long-range fixed reading. It is rated −20 °C to +150 °C.

Where it fits

  • Plant maintenance: motors, pumps, gearboxes and compressors
  • Electrical: distribution panels, transformer enclosures and meter boxes
  • Logistics: metal drums, roll cages and returnable metal totes

For audit planning, read the fixed asset audit guide, or compare other sizes in PCB and ceramic RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • Machinery maintenance
  • Electrical cabinets
  • Industrial gas cylinders
  • Metal drums
  • Server racks
  • Roll cages and totes

Frequently asked questions

What read range does the IDTS-D40 give on metal?
Approximately 2 m when mounted on metal, which suits handheld scanning of machinery, cabinets and cylinders. Reader power, antenna choice and surrounding metal all affect the result on your site.
What can I store in the 32-bit user memory?
32 bits is 4 bytes, room for a short code such as a location number or a date. Keep fuller records in your asset software, linked to the tag’s EPC.
Which chip and protocol does it use?
The Impinj Monza R6-P chip with the ISO 18000-6C air interface. It responds across 860–960 MHz, which covers India’s licence-exempt 865–868 MHz band, so standard UHF readers can read and write it.
Can I get the tags pre-encoded?
Yes. Ask for custom encoding when you add the IDTS-D40 to your quote list, so the tags arrive carrying your asset numbers. Samples are useful for checking range on your own assets first.
