Overview

A narrow on-metal RFID bar tag for rails and edges

Many metal assets offer a long, thin strip of flat surface and nothing more: a rack upright, a panel door edge, a tool shank, the lip of a cable tray. The IDTS-5010 is shaped for exactly that, a 50 × 10 mm UHF anti-metal bar, 3.5 mm at its highest point. A square on-metal tag would overhang these surfaces; this one lies along them.

Fixing and durability

A 3.2 mm hole at each end, 44 mm centre to centre, lets you screw or rivet the bar down at both ends, so it stays put on assets that are handled or moved all day. The board is black-coated, with a raised encapsulation dot protecting the chip at the centre. The rated operating range of −20 °C to +150 °C covers warm process areas as well as cold storage.

Range and reading

Read range is about 3.5 m on metal, enough to sweep a row of racks or a line of panels with a handheld. The U8 chip on ISO 18000-6C carries a 128-bit EPC and 96-bit TID and reads on standard UHF equipment. For a longer bar of the same 10 mm width, see the IDTS-9010 (90 × 10 mm), or browse all PCB and ceramic RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • Rack uprights and rails
  • Tool shanks and handles
  • Panel door edges
  • Valve bodies
  • Cable trays and pipework
  • Roll cages and trolleys

Frequently asked questions

How far can a handheld read the IDTS-5010 on metal?
Approximately 3.5 m with the tag mounted on metal. The actual figure depends on the reader, antenna, power, orientation and surface, so test on your own asset before rollout.
Will it fit on a narrow rack rail or valve body?
Yes, that is what the 10 mm width is for. The bar runs 50 mm along the surface and is 3.5 mm high, so it sits on rails, panel edges, valve bodies and tool shanks where a square tag would overhang.
How is it fixed?
Through two 3.2 mm holes, one at each end, 44 mm apart. M3 screws or rivets suit that hole size, and fixing at both ends stops the tag from being twisted off.
Does it work in hot areas?
It is rated −20 °C to +150 °C operating, so it can go on equipment near ovens, motors and process lines as well as in cold stores.
Can the EPC be encoded with our asset numbers?
Yes. The 128-bit EPC is writable. Request custom encoding on your quote, or encode on site with a UHF desktop or handheld reader.
