Overview

A small on-metal PCB RFID tag for compact metal assets

The IDTS-2510 is a UHF anti-metal tag on a 25 × 10 mm black PCB, 3.4 mm high at the domed chip encapsulation. It is meant for metal items with only a small flat area to spare: a spanner face, a gauge body, the end of a rack rail, a stainless clamp. Unlike a paper label or a standard inlay, it is designed to be read while sitting directly on metal, with a typical range of about 3 m.

Mounting the IDTS-2510

Two 2.3 mm holes on a 21 mm pitch take small screws or rivets. Because the hole pattern is fixed, you can drill a whole set of tools or fittings to one template and keep the tag in the same place on every asset.

The edges are gold-plated, and copper castellated pads sit at the four corners. Pads of this kind are normally used for soldering onto a host board; if you plan to fit the tag that way instead of screwing it down, confirm the details with us before ordering.

Readers and range

Around 3 m on metal is enough for handheld audits at a tool crib counter or along a rack. The U8 chip runs ISO 18000-6C with a 128-bit EPC and 96-bit TID, so it works with standard UHF handheld readers. Rated −20 °C to +150 °C, it also suits tooling that runs warm. To compare sizes and formats, read how to choose on-metal RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • Hand and torque tools
  • Server and switch chassis
  • Small stainless fittings
  • Calibration instruments
  • Small metal trays
  • Moulds and dies

Frequently asked questions

Can the IDTS-2510 be fixed directly onto metal?
Yes. It is an on-metal (anti-metal) PCB tag designed to be mounted straight onto steel or other metal assets, where paper labels and standard inlays do not read reliably.
What read range should I expect?
Approximately 3 m when mounted on metal. The actual range depends on the reader, antenna, power setting, orientation and the shape of the metal surface, so test a sample on your own asset.
What screws does it take?
There are two 2.3 mm holes on a 21 mm pitch, so use screws or rivets small enough to pass a 2.3 mm hole, typically M2. At 3.4 mm high, the tag sits low on the asset.
Will it survive heat on plant equipment?
The rated operating range is −20 °C to +150 °C, which covers warm machinery and tool-room conditions as well as cold stores. Being screwed on, it does not depend on adhesive that can lift on hot metal.
Can the tags be encoded with our asset numbers?
Yes. The 128-bit EPC can be written with your numbering scheme; ask for custom encoding when you add the IDTS-2510 to your quote list.
