Overview

A low-profile on-metal PCB tag for flat metal faces

The IDTS-4216 is a UHF anti-metal tag on a 42 × 16 mm black PCB, only 2.6 mm at its highest point. That low profile matters where a tag has to sit close to the surface: on a server chassis that slides into a rack, on a cabinet door that closes against a frame, or on a motor housing where a thick block would get knocked. Fixed directly to metal, it reads at about 4 m.

Six holes, more fixing options

Instead of a single hole at each end, the IDTS-4216 has six copper-ringed holes, three at each end, plus a circular opening at the centre. Installers can pick the holes that line up with existing threads or rivet points on the asset, or fix through more of them for a firmer hold on parts that vibrate. The hole diameter is not specified, so check your screws against a sample.

Range, chip and environment

About 4 m on metal suits walk-past audits in IT rooms and maintenance rounds on the plant floor. The U8 chip on ISO 18000-6C stores a 128-bit EPC and 96-bit TID and reads on standard UHF equipment, and the tag is rated −20 °C to +150 °C. For audit workflows, see the fixed asset audit guide, or browse PCB and ceramic RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • Server and UPS chassis
  • Rack uprights
  • Motors and gearboxes
  • Control cabinets
  • Meter enclosures
  • Steel bins and stillages

Frequently asked questions

How far does the IDTS-4216 read on metal?
Approximately 4 m when mounted directly on metal. Reader power, antenna, orientation and surrounding metal all affect the real figure, so trial a sample on your asset.
How is it mounted?
With screws or rivets through its six copper-ringed holes, three at each end. You can use one pair or several. The hole diameter is not published, so confirm your fasteners on a sample first.
How thick is it?
2.6 mm at its highest point, on a 42 × 16 mm footprint, so it suits chassis, doors and housings where a thicker on-metal tag would catch or be knocked off.
What temperature can it handle?
It is rated −20 °C to +150 °C operating, which covers equipment that runs hot in normal service, such as motors and machine tools.
Which reader should I use with it?
Any standard UHF reader using ISO 18000-6C in India’s 865–868 MHz band. A UHF handheld reader is the usual choice for audits and maintenance rounds.
