Overview

A thin 28 mm on-metal RFID tag that sits close to the surface

On assets that are dragged, stacked or wiped down, a tall tag is the first thing to get knocked off. The IDTS-D28 keeps a low profile: the 28 mm round PCB disc is just 2.6 mm thick at its encapsulated centre dome. It is designed to be mounted directly on metal and is listed at approximately 3.5 m in that position.

Fixing pattern

Two 3.2 mm holes sit 22.4 mm apart, so screws or rivets hold the tag on greasy or warm surfaces where adhesive would let go. Allow a flat area at least 28 mm across on the asset.

D28 or D25?

Both are round black PCB tags with 3.2 mm holes. The IDTS-D25 is smaller across, 4 mm thick and listed at about 4 m; the D28 gives up a little range for a body 1.4 mm thinner. Pick the D28 where clearance or snagging matters, such as cylinder shoulders, switchgear doors and tool faces. Our on-metal tag buying guide covers the surface and range trade-offs, and more formats are under PCB and ceramic RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • Cylinder shoulder plates
  • Switchgear doors
  • Spanner sets and jigs
  • Rack rails and switches
  • Pipe flanges
  • Depot spares

Frequently asked questions

What is the read distance of the IDTS-D28 on metal?
It is listed at approximately 3.5 m on metal, enough for a handheld to pick up tools, cylinders and panels without touching each one. Reader, antenna and mounting position all affect the figure.
How thin is it, and how is it mounted?
The disc is 28 mm across and 2.6 mm thick at its raised centre dome. It is fixed through two 3.2 mm holes spaced 22.4 mm apart, with screws or rivets.
Can it be used on equipment that runs hot?
The rated operating window is −20 °C to +150 °C. Check the surface temperature at the mounting point; anything above 150 °C needs a higher-rated tag.
Can I get it pre-encoded?
Yes. The 128-bit EPC can carry your asset or cylinder numbers and the 96-bit TID stays as a unique factory ID. Ask for custom encoding when you request a quote.
