Overview

A 12 mm on-metal UHF RFID micro tag with 1.5 m reach

The IDTS-1204 is a 12 × 4 mm black PCB bar, 2.8 mm at its highest point, with a metallic element in the centre and a solder pad at each end. Its quoted read distance is approx. 1.5 m on metal, longer than the 10 mm IDTS-1004 or the 15 mm IDTS-1504. That extra reach helps when tagged items sit on a shelf or inside a cabinet and the reader cannot get right up to each one.

No holes: solder or bond it flush

There is no mounting hole, so nothing stands above the tag. Integrators can solder the end pads inside an electronic or mechanical assembly, or bond the body with a structural adhesive on tools and instrument handles. Because it is flat and low, it can also sit in a shallow groove where it is protected from knocks and cleaning.

Reading and encoding

It works with any ISO 18000-6C reader. A UHF handheld covers stock checks and audits, while a desktop reader is the simplest way to write your asset numbers into the 128-bit EPC before the tags are fitted. The chip is listed as U8 / M781, with 0 or 512 bits of user memory depending on the version.

Typical applications

  • Electronic enclosures
  • Laptops and network switches
  • Drivers and spanners
  • Hospital CSSD instruments
  • Test probes and meters
  • Moulds and dies

Frequently asked questions

What read distance does the IDTS-1204 achieve on metal?
Approx. 1.5 m when mounted on metal, a useful distance from a 12 × 4 × 2.8 mm tag. Your actual range depends on reader power, antenna and the surrounding metalwork, so trial a sample on your own assets.
How is it attached if it has no holes?
It has a solder pad at each end, so it can be soldered into compact assemblies. On tools and instruments, bond it with an adhesive rated for the surface and the temperatures involved; a shallow groove keeps it flush and protected.
Is it suitable for IT asset audits?
Yes, on metal-cased equipment such as servers, switches and laptops with metal bodies. Its small flat body sits on a chassis without covering vents or labels, and approx. 1.5 m on metal lets an auditor read it with a handheld. On plastic housings, test first, since on-metal tags are tuned for metal.
Does it work on Indian and European UHF frequencies?
Yes. It covers 860–960 MHz, which includes India's licence-exempt 865–868 MHz band and the 865–868 MHz ETSI band used in Europe, so the same tag reads on both.
