Overview

A slim BLE work card badge with AOA positioning

The ID-BLE-S25 is a white Bluetooth Low Energy badge the size of an ID card, 85.55 × 53.95 mm, only 4.3 mm thick and 20 g. Staff wear it on a lanyard like an ordinary employee card while it broadcasts iBeacon and Eddystone frames on the licence-exempt 2.4 GHz band (2400–2483.5 MHz), up to 100 m in open space.

It is one of the AOA-capable models, so with ID-AOA-GW25 anchors the wearer can be located to within a metre.

Two ways to locate the wearer

  • Room or zone: ID-BGW-02 gateways hear the badge and report its signal strength (RSSI) over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 4G; comparing readings across gateways places it to about 10 m. A phone running a BLE scanning app also sees it.
  • Sub-metre: ID-AOA-GW25 AOA anchors measure the angle the signal arrives from and fix the badge to 0.1–1 m. One anchor covers a radius of up to about twice its mounting height.

You can start with gateways and add anchors only where precision matters; the badges stay the same.

Power, protection and options

The 850 mAh Li-Po (3.7 V) is rechargeable; its 3-year rating applies at 0 dBm with a 500 ms broadcast interval. The card is IP67 and works from −20 °C to +65 °C. An accelerometer is available as an option, and broadcast settings are changed from the Identium Connect app.

ID-BLE-S25 or ID-BLE-C08?

Pick the S25 when a thin, light, IP67 badge matters most and RFID is not needed. The ID-BLE-C08 adds RFID tag support in a 7 mm, 42 g card that is life-waterproof rather than IP67, with a 1500 mAh battery. Both support AOA. See the full range under BLE wearables and work cards.

Typical applications

  • Factory staff positioning
  • Hospital staff location
  • Security facility staff
  • Warehouse workforce
  • Elderly care staff
  • Exhibition hall staff

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the S25 and the C08?
The S25 is the slimmer card: 4.3 mm, 20 g and IP67, with an 850 mAh battery rated 3 years at 0 dBm / 500 ms. The ID-BLE-C08 is 89 × 58 × 7 mm and 42 g, adds RFID tag support, is life-waterproof rather than IP67, and carries a 1500 mAh battery. Either card can be located to sub-metre accuracy with ID-AOA-GW25 anchors and reaches up to 100 m in open space.
Do I need AOA anchors to use the S25?
No. It works as a normal iBeacon / Eddystone badge with ID-BGW-02 gateways or phone apps. Add ID-AOA-GW25 anchors only in the areas where you need sub-metre positions; the badges do not change.
How accurate is the positioning?
ID-AOA-GW25 anchors are specified for 0.1–1 m. Each anchor covers a radius of up to about twice its installation height, up to roughly 6 m from a 3 m ceiling, and several anchors tile larger floors. RSSI tracking with gateways alone is closer to 10 m.
Can the S25 also be used with door or attendance card readers?
No RFID chip is listed for the S25; it is a BLE badge. If staff also need to tap RFID readers with the same card, look at the ID-BLE-C08, which adds RFID tag support.
Is the battery rechargeable?
Yes. It is an 850 mAh, 3.7 V Li-Po, rated for 3 years at 0 dBm with a 500 ms broadcast interval.
