Overview

A BLE SOS button beacon staff can wear

The ID-BLE-B50 is a small Bluetooth Low Energy fob, 59.3 × 34.3 × 12 mm and 10 g, with a single button. It comes in two versions:

  • B50-SOS: a red SOS button, so the wearer can call for help.
  • B50: an on/off function button.

Both versions advertise as iBeacon and Eddystone on the licence-exempt 2.4 GHz band (2400–2483.5 MHz), with a range of up to 70 m in open space.

How an SOS press reaches your team

ID-BGW-02 BLE gateways listen for the fob across the site and forward its broadcasts over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 4G, so when the B50-SOS button is pressed your software knows which zone the wearer is in, to about 10 m. An alert can only be raised where gateways cover the site. Who is notified, and how, is set up in your own platform. A BLE app on a phone can also see the fob. The B50 does not support AOA positioning.

Charging and settings

A rechargeable 220 mAh Li-Po (3.7 V) powers the fob, with 3 years of standby quoted at 0 dBm and a 10 s interval. Transmit power and interval are adjusted in the Identium Connect app, and the fob operates from −20 °C to +70 °C.

B50 or a location-only wearable?

Choose the B50-SOS when the wearer needs to call for help, not just be located. For location only, the ID-BLE-W16 is a round IP67 lanyard tag, whereas no IP rating is published for the B50, and the ID-BLE-W61 wristband reaches 100 m in open space. See all BLE wearables and work cards.

Typical applications

  • Staff duress alerts
  • Lone workers on covered sites
  • Elderly care call button
  • Hospital staff safety
  • Security guard patrols

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the B50-SOS and the B50?
The B50-SOS has a red SOS button for calling for help; the B50 has an on/off function button. Size, battery and range are the same: 59.3 × 34.3 × 12 mm, 10 g, 220 mAh rechargeable, up to 70 m in open space.
How does an SOS press become an alarm?
The fob is picked up by ID-BGW-02 gateways, so an SOS can only be raised within gateway coverage. The gateways forward its data to your server over UDP, TCP or MQTT, and your tracking or alarm software turns the press into an alert and shows the wearer's last zone. Tell us which platform you use and we will confirm the integration.
How precisely is the wearer located when they press SOS?
To zone level, about 10 m, by RSSI with ID-BGW-02 gateways. The B50 does not support AOA. If staff need sub-metre positions, they can carry an AOA-capable work card such as the ID-BLE-S25 with ID-AOA-GW25 anchors.
Is the B50 waterproof?
No IP rating is published for the B50; it is specified as a wearable fob operating from −20 °C to +70 °C. If it must cope with washdown or heavy rain, ask us before ordering, or consider the IP67 ID-BLE-W16 lanyard tag for location-only use.
How long does the battery last?
Its 220 mAh rechargeable Li-Po is rated for 3 years of standby at 0 dBm transmit power and a 10 s interval. Shorter intervals or higher power use it up faster.
