Overview
What the IDTS-8620 on-metal RFID tag is for
Ordinary UHF labels detune when stuck to steel and read poorly, if at all. The IDTS-8620 is built for exactly that surface: its ABS bar is designed to sit directly on metal, with a typical read range of about 7 m on metal. The 86 mm length and 20 mm width suit long, narrow mounting faces such as rack uprights, cylinder collars and the rails of tool trolleys.
Two ways to fix it
Where you can drill, use the two 4.2 mm holes, 76 mm apart, for bolts or screws, or thread cable ties through them on rails and guard rings. Where drilling is not allowed, peel the red liner and use the foam adhesive backing. Clean and degrease the steel first, because adhesion on oily or flaking paint depends on surface preparation.
Encoding and reading
The tag uses a U9 chip on ISO 18000-6C, so standard UHF readers work with it. Write your asset number into the 96-bit EPC bank; the 96-bit TID holds a factory-set chip ID. For walk-round audits of cylinders or racks, a UHF handheld reader is the usual tool.
Before you order
The −20 °C to +80 °C rating covers stores, cold rooms and most shop floors; for ovens or hot process lines, look at the high-temperature options among our on-metal RFID tags. Read range changes with reader power, antenna, tag orientation and the shape of the metal, so trial a few tags on your own assets. For cylinder programmes, our gas cylinder tracking guide covers on-metal tags and fill-cycle traceability.
Typical applications
- Gas cylinder tracking
- Warehouse racking
- Server rack audits
- Tool crib control
- Plant maintenance rounds
- Metal cages and pallets
