Overview

A UHF RFID strip tag for items too small for a label

The IDTS-2504 is a passive UHF tag cut down to a 25 × 4 mm strip of green PCB. That narrow footprint fits along the edge of a circuit board, on a slim handle or beside a cable run, places where a card-sized tag or a standard label would overhang. The chip sits under a small black epoxy dome in the centre; the dome is the 1.8 mm high point, and the rest of the strip is thinner.

Fixing it, and where it works

Four through-holes at the corners let you screw or rivet the strip to the item instead of relying on adhesive alone. That helps on harnesses, boards and fixtures that vibrate, run warm or get wiped down. The rated operating range is −20 °C to +150 °C.

This is not an on-metal design. Like most standard UHF tags, it detunes when laid flat on metal or against liquid, so use it on plastic, composite, wood or board material. For a metal asset of similar size, look at the IDTS-2510 on-metal PCB tag (25 × 10 mm).

Read range and readers

Expect about 1 m, which suits reads with a handheld or desktop reader at a workstation, test bench or store counter rather than long-range portals. The U8 chip on ISO 18000-6C holds a 128-bit EPC for your serial number plus a 96-bit factory TID, and reads on standard UHF equipment. See more PCB and ceramic RFID tags.

Typical applications

  • PCB and WIP traceability
  • Cable and harness marking
  • Plastic jigs and carriers
  • Lab racks and fixtures
  • IT peripherals
  • Returnable plastic bins

Frequently asked questions

Is the IDTS-2504 suitable for metal surfaces?
No. It is a standard PCB strip tag, not an on-metal design, so mount it on plastic, composite, wood or circuit board material. For bare metal, choose an on-metal tag such as the IDTS-2510.
How far can it be read?
Approximately 1 m, depending on the reader, antenna, power setting and what the tag is mounted on. That suits close-range scanning with a handheld or desktop reader at a bench or counter.
How do I fix such a small tag?
Use the four through-holes at the corners to screw or rivet it to the item. Mechanical fixing holds better than adhesive on cables, boards and fixtures that vibrate, get cleaned or run warm.
Does it have user memory?
No. It carries a 128-bit EPC, which you can write with your own asset or serial number, and a 96-bit TID set at the factory. If you need extra data stored on the tag, choose a model with user memory.
Can I order the tags pre-encoded?
Yes. Request custom EPC encoding when you add the IDTS-2504 to your quote list. Testing a few samples on your own items and reader first is a good idea.
