UHF RFID 8-Port Fixed Reader IDTS-IHZ8N (N704)
An eight-port fixed UHF RFID reader for dock doors, conveyors and production lines, built on the N704 module in the IHZ4 housing. Its 865–868 MHz version reads ISO 18000-6C and 6B tags at over 400 a second and connects over Ethernet, RS-232 or RS-485.

Overview
What is inside the IDTS-IHZ8N 8-port UHF RFID reader
The IDTS-IHZ8N is the IDTS-IHZ4N with eight SMA antenna ports and is otherwise the same reader. The eight jacks, labelled ANT 1 to ANT 8, sit on the IHZ4's aluminium, anti-shock housing. An N704 third-generation reader module does the RF work and an interface board handles Ethernet, serial and I/O; tags are read and written over ISO 18000-6C (EPC Gen2) and ISO 18000-6B.
Planning read points with eight antennas
Eight ports let one reader serve several zones that tags pass in a predictable way: several dock doors, the lanes of a multi-lane gate, a portal with antennas on several sides, or shelf and cabinet zones in a file room. Point each antenna at its own zone. Port-to-port isolation of more than 30 dB limits leakage between the reader's antenna ports, and antenna placement and output power keep neighbouring zones apart.
The listed range is the maker's test figure, so a site survey with your own tags should decide the layout. During commissioning, use antenna-connection detection to confirm each of the eight cables before trays are closed. Choose the zone antennas from our RFID antenna range.
Links and I/O for eight zones
Reads from all eight zones reach your server, WMS or middleware over one Ethernet 10/100 connection on the site LAN. RS-232 suits a PC or controller beside the reader, and RS-485 a PLC or serial network at the end of a long cable. Wiegand for access or attendance controllers is a customisation, so order it if you need it.
With eight zones and two opto-isolated inputs, put the sensors where timing matters, such as a photo-eye at the two busiest dock doors, so your software starts reading as a load arrives. The two relay outputs can light a lamp, sound a hooter or signal a barrier controller; for loads above the relay rating in the specs table, use a contactor.
IHZ8N or IHZ8: which to choose
IDTS-IHZ8N
N704 engine with Ethernet, RS-232 and RS-485, two inputs and two relays; Wiegand is a customisation. A good fit when network or serial links and two I/O pairs are enough for the eight zones.
IDTS-IHZ8
Impinj E710 engine in the same housing, also with eight antenna ports. Over the IHZ8N it adds USB for bench set-up, standard Wiegand, three inputs and three relays, and a higher listed read rate and read range. Choose the IDTS-IHZ8 when you need any of those.
For fewer zones, the IDTS-IHZ4N is the same N704 reader with four antenna ports; for more, the IDTS-IHZ16N has sixteen.
Typical applications
- Warehouse dock doors
- Conveyor lines
- Production lines
- Library and file rooms
- Attendance and access gates
- Apparel stock rooms
- Vehicle and asset gates
