Overview

A flexible silicone UHF RFID tag for cables, hoses and pipes

Rigid tags struggle on round or uneven objects: they rock, lift at the edges or stand proud of the surface. The IDTS-5822 is a soft silicone bar, 58 × 22 mm and 3.6 mm thick including its adhesive, shaped like a dog-bone with two elongated slots at each end. Pass cable ties through the slots and it bends against a cable bundle, hose or pipe instead of perching on top of it.

Two ways to fix it

  • Cable ties through the four slots, for cable bundles, harnesses, hydraulic hoses, conduit and pipework.
  • Adhesive, using the factory-applied red double-sided VHB-type tape, for flat or gently curved faces such as panel doors, meter boxes and equipment housings.

Reading it on metal

The quoted read range of about 4 m is measured with the tag on metal, so you can plan with a realistic mounting rather than a free-air figure. It is not classed as a dedicated anti-metal tag, so test it on your actual pipe or cable tray first; for flat steel assets that need more distance, look at our on-metal RFID tags. If reads are patchy after installation, the tag troubleshooting guide covers placement and orientation.

Typical applications

  • Cable and harness ID
  • Hydraulic hoses
  • Pipework and conduit
  • Valve fittings
  • Panels and meter boxes
  • Portable power tools

Frequently asked questions

Can the IDTS-5822 be used on metal surfaces?
Yes. Its read range of approximately 4 m is specified with the tag on metal, so it can go on cable trays, pipes, valves and metal housings. It is not a dedicated anti-metal tag, so trial it on your own asset before a large rollout.
How is the tag fixed to a cable or pipe?
Strap it on with cable ties through the four elongated slots, two at each end, or peel the liner and stick it down using the factory-applied double-sided adhesive. The silicone body flexes to sit against curved surfaces.
Which frequency and standard does it use?
It is a passive UHF tag with an NXP UCODE 8 chip on ISO 18000-6C, covering 860–960 MHz. That includes India's licence-exempt 865–868 MHz band, so standard UHF handheld and fixed readers will read it.
Can I order tags pre-encoded with my cable numbers?
Yes. The 128-bit EPC can be pre-encoded with your asset or cable numbering, and custom printing is available on request. Add the quantity to your quote list and describe the numbering you need.
What temperature range does it handle?
The rated operating range is −20 °C to +80 °C, which covers indoor plant floors, substations and chilled storage areas within that band.
