Overview
A miniature anti-metal UHF RFID tag that reads at 1 m
The IDTS-0804 is 8 mm long, 4 mm wide and 2.8 mm high, with a black potted top and a metallised rim. It is barely larger than the 8 × 3 mm IDTS-0803, yet its quoted read distance is twice as long: approx. 1 m on metal against 0.5 m. That is enough to read a tray of parts or a short tool rack with one pass of a handheld, rather than touching the reader to each item.
Choosing between the two chip versions
The chip is listed as U8 / M781, and the choice comes down to memory. The U8 version has no user memory and suits plain serial-number tracking. The M781 version adds 512 bits of user memory for data you want on the tag itself, such as a part revision or the last inspection code. Both carry a 128-bit EPC and a 96-bit TID. Say which you need when you request a quote.
Fixing it to the asset
Two small plated holes at one end take a pin, rivet or tie wire sized to suit, or you can bond the underside flat with an adhesive. Read and encode it with any ISO 18000-6C UHF handheld or desktop reader. For help sizing tags for metal parts, see how to choose on-metal RFID tags.
Typical applications
- Tool crib control
- PCB and module tracking
- Jigs, moulds and dies
- Metrology instruments
- Rack hardware audits
- Returnable machined spares
