What the IDTS-D05 micro on-metal RFID tag is for
Some items on an asset register are simply too small for a normal tag: a dial gauge, a socket, a drill chuck, a mould insert. The IDTS-D05 is a 5 mm round PCB disc, 4 mm high at its dome, that still works when fixed directly to steel or aluminium. It lets those small items carry the same UHF identity as the larger equipment around them.
Expect close-range reads
An antenna this small cannot match a bar tag for distance. The listed range is about 0.5 m on metal, so plan for an operator to bring a handheld reader close to each item, for example at a tool crib counter or a calibration bench. Short range also helps avoid reading neighbouring items by mistake. If the item has room for a slightly larger disc, the 8 mm IDTS-D08 is listed at about 1.5 m.
Fixing a tag with no hole
The D05 has no mounting hole. Micro tags of this kind are usually bonded with an industrial adhesive or set into a shallow pocket in the part so the dome sits flush and protected. Trial your method on a sample before tagging a full tool set. Other sizes are listed under PCB and ceramic RFID tags.
