Overview

A sleeve for one card or one passport

A contactless card or an e-passport only answers a reader while its chip is exposed; a sleeve with an aluminium layer wraps it so the chip stays silent until the document is pulled out. The card size fits a standard CR80 bank, metro or access card; the passport size fits an Indian or other standard passport booklet. Like the blocking card, it works at 13.56 MHz only: 125 kHz cards and UHF tags such as FASTag are not affected, and a windshield tag is in any case never in a sleeve.

Who orders them

A bank can add one to the welcome kit of a new contactless card, a travel agency or visa service can hand them out with passports, and a company can print them with a logo as a practical gift. The sleeve prints with your artwork and a line of instructions. For the real level of risk from skimming, and whether a sleeve is worth carrying, see the RFID data security guide.

Ordering

Choose the card or passport size with the size picker; mixed orders are fine. Sleeves follow the consumables rule: minimum order 500 pcs. Request a quote with the size, quantity and artwork. Card holders, lanyards and the blocking card are listed with the other RFID accessories.

Frequently asked questions

Does the sleeve block an e-passport?
Yes, while the passport is inside it. The chip in an e-passport works at 13.56 MHz, the frequency the sleeve shields. Take the passport out at immigration so the officer's reader can read it.
How is it different from the blocking card?
The sleeve wraps one card or passport on its own; the blocking card sits in a wallet and shields the cards beside it. Both work at 13.56 MHz only. A gifting kit can include one of each.
How do I test it?
Hold an NFC phone to the card to confirm it reads, then slide the card into the sleeve and try again: the phone should no longer read it. The same test works with an e-passport held against the phone.
