RFID-Blocking Card for Wallets (13.56 MHz NFC Shield, CR80)

A CR80 card that sits in a wallet with contactless bank, metro and access cards and shields them from 13.56 MHz readers while it is there. No battery, nothing to switch on; printable both sides, so it doubles as a branded gift or part of a bank's card-onboarding kit. It does not shield 125 kHz or UHF tags.

Overview

What the card does, and what it does not

Contactless bank cards, metro cards and most office access cards work at 13.56 MHz and answer any reader held within a few centimetres. A blocking card placed in the same wallet disturbs that field so the cards beside it stay silent until it is taken out. It does not cover 125 kHz cards, which answer at a different frequency, and it does nothing for UHF tags such as FASTag, which sit on the windshield and are read from metres away. Whether you need one at all depends on the cards you carry and where; the RFID data security guide sets out the actual risk of skimming and cloning before you decide.

Printed for gifting and onboarding

Because it is a plain CR80 card, it prints like our printed ID cards: a logo and message on one side, instructions on the other. Banks and card issuers can add it to the welcome kit of a new contactless card, and companies can hand it out as a practical giveaway with staff cards. Pair it with the blocking sleeve for passports and single cards.

Testing and ordering

Test it with an NFC phone: hold the phone to a contactless card alone, then with the blocking card stacked on it, and the phone should stop reading. Blocking cards follow the consumables rule: minimum order 500 pcs. Request a quote with the quantity and artwork, or see the other card accessories under RFID accessories.

Frequently asked questions

Does it block FASTag?
No. FASTag is a UHF tag fixed to the windshield and read from a gantry metres away; a wallet card has no effect on it. The blocking card covers 13.56 MHz cards in the same wallet only.
Will it stop my metro or office card working?
Yes, while the two are stacked together. To tap in at the metro gate or the office door, take the metro or access card out of the wallet, or keep the blocking card in a different compartment. A 125 kHz office card is not affected at all.
Is it the same as a blocking sleeve?
No. The card shields the cards beside it in a wallet; a sleeve wraps one card or a passport on its own. Both shield 13.56 MHz only. The sleeve is listed separately.
