HF RFID Plant & Tree Tag IDTS-PTH165 (13.56 MHz Cable Tie)

A 13.56 MHz HF RFID plant and tree tag sealed in the head of a self-locking nylon cable tie. Nursery, orchard, plantation and research teams loop it around a stem, sapling, branch, pot rim or seedling bundle and read it at close range.

Overview

What the IDTS-PTH165 RFID plant and tree tag is

Fastened around the plant itself, not set in the soil beside it, the IDTS-PTH165 moves with the plant between beds or out to a planting site, and can be left on the sapling there (check the loop as the stem grows). The chip carries an ID that your system links to the plant.

Fitting it on plants and trees

Pass the strap round the stem, pot rim or support and pull it through the head, turning the head towards the path so staff can reach it with a reader. On pot rims, seedling bundles and tree guards it can be pulled snug.

Reading tags and keeping plant records

Each tag is read by touching the HF RFID reader to its head, so staff record plants one at a time as they walk the beds. In your plant database or spreadsheet, link each tag ID to that plant's record (species, variety, planting date, location), so a read brings up its history in the field.

Tie tag, soil stake or nail-in disc?

  • If you would rather read tags with a UHF handheld than an HF reader, consider the UHF plant stake label IDTS-PSU8, set in the pot or bed next to the plant; its range varies with the reader and with how wet the soil around it is, so test a sample first.
  • For tree trunks too thick for a tie about 165 mm long, and for logs, posts and timber, the IDTS-TND1 nail-in disc tag is fixed by driving its spike into the wood.

Frequently asked questions

Which reader reads the IDTS-PTH165, and can a phone read it?
An HF 13.56 MHz (ISO 14443A) reader that supports the standard F08 chip (MIFARE Classic 1K-compatible), held within 0–5 cm of the head; desktop and handheld models are listed under HF RFID readers. If you already have a reader, give its model when you enquire. If your staff need to read tags with an NFC phone, ask for an NFC chip instead; the chip is confirmed in your quotation.
Will the tie harm a growing plant?
The strap locks one way and cannot be loosened once pulled through, so fit it with care on living plants. On stems, saplings and branches, leave a loose loop rather than pulling it tight, and check it during the season so it does not cut into the bark as the plant thickens; cut and replace it when needed.
Can the tags carry our plant numbers or logo?
Yes. A number or a logo can be laser-printed on the head, so each tag can be read by eye as well as by reader. Send your numbering series or artwork with the enquiry. The tags are shown in blue and yellow; the colour is confirmed in your quotation.
Can the IDTS-PTH165 be used outdoors?
The tie is described as weatherproof and waterproof in its listing, but no IP class or temperature range is given. Because the nylon strap and head hang on the plant in full sun and rain, hang a few ties on site for a season and re-read them before tagging a whole nursery.
How is it different from your other RFID cable tie tags?
Our HF RFID cable tie tag has a long flag head and is made for closing mine sampling bags, not for plants. The IDTS-PTH165 has a small square head that sits close to a stem, branch or seedling bundle and can carry a laser-printed plant number. For cables, pipes and hoses read with a UHF reader, see the UHF RFID cable tie tag.
