Overview

How the IDTS-D29 UHF RFID pipe tag fits

Pipes are awkward to tag: labels peel off curved, hot or painted surfaces, and drilling a live line is rarely allowed. The IDTS-D29 solves this mechanically. The 29 mm disc comes already mounted on a stainless steel worm-drive band clamp, so a fitter wraps the band around the pipe and tightens it with a screwdriver. If the line is re-routed, loosen the clamp and move the tag.

Built for hot and outdoor lines

The disc is a metal alloy body with a PCB antenna under a black epoxy face, rated from −40 °C to +200 °C. That covers steam and thermal-oil circuits running within that limit, as well as outdoor utility pipework and chilled-water runs.

Read range and readers

The rated read distance is about 2 m, depending on reader performance, so this tag is meant for walk-up reads during inspection rounds rather than reads from across the plant. A UHF handheld reader held near the pipe is the usual workflow. The NXP UCODE 8 chip stores your line, spool or section number in its 128-bit EPC bank, and the 96-bit TID is a fixed factory ID your maintenance software can verify.

Before you order

The clamp is adjustable, but its diameter range is not listed, so send your pipe outside diameters with your quote request. Other rugged PCB disc and bar tags, including screw-mount formats, are listed under RFID PCB and ceramic tags, and our fixed asset audit guide explains how tagged plant is audited.

Typical applications

  • Process piping
  • Steam and hot-water lines
  • Utility pipework
  • Fire hydrant lines
  • HVAC chilled-water pipes
  • Cylinder manifolds

Frequently asked questions

How does the IDTS-D29 attach to a pipe?
It ships fitted to an adjustable stainless steel worm-drive band clamp. Wrap the band around the pipe and tighten it with a screwdriver. No drilling, welding or adhesive is needed, and the clamp can be loosened to move the tag later.
What pipe sizes does the clamp fit?
The clamp is adjustable, but a diameter range is not published for this listing. Send your pipe outside diameters with your quote request so the fit can be confirmed before you order.
What temperature range does the pipe tag handle?
It is rated for operation from −40 °C to +200 °C, which covers cold service lines, outdoor pipework and many hot process lines. The epoxy face and metal alloy body protect the PCB antenna.
What read range should I expect?
About 2 m, depending on reader/writer performance. Range also varies with the antenna, the pipe material and diameter, and the surroundings, so trial a few tags on your own pipework before finalising quantities.
Will it work with my UHF reader?
If your reader is a standard passive UHF reader, yes. The tag uses an NXP UCODE 8 chip on ISO 18000-6C and covers 860–960 MHz, including India’s 865–868 MHz band.
