Overview

A pocket dual-frequency RFID reader, writer and card emulator

The IDTS-DFE8 covers the two card families you meet on almost every Indian access-control site: 125 kHz proximity (ID) cards and 13.56 MHz IC and NFC cards such as MIFARE Classic and Ultralight. It reads a card, writes compatible blank cards such as T5577, and can emulate a stored card so the device itself is presented to a reader.

Card profiles are kept in 8 slots. Each slot can hold one 13.56 MHz card and one 125 kHz card, so the device carries up to 16 credentials on a keyring that weighs 8 g.

Who it is for

  • Access-control installers and integrators commissioning door, lift and turnstile readers, checking that a reader accepts the card type the site uses.
  • Facility and security teams testing their own readers and credentials, or carrying test cards for several sites on one device.
  • Developers building NFC and RFID applications who need a programmable card on the bench.

Use the IDTS-DFE8 only with cards and systems you own or are authorised to test. Copying or using an access credential without the owner's permission is illegal.

How it works

  1. Connect. Pair the device with the app on an Android or iOS phone over Bluetooth LE 5.0, or connect it to a PC over USB Type-C.
  2. Read or load a card. Read a 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz card into one of the 8 slots, or write a compatible blank card.
  3. Present it. Select the slot and hold the device against the reader, just as you would a card.

The battery is a 90 mAh rechargeable cell, charged over the same USB Type-C port that is used for data and firmware updates.

Choosing it against a desktop reader

For encoding cards in volume at a desk, a USB HF / NFC desktop reader is quicker and easier to integrate with software. The IDTS-DFE8 is the field tool: it fits on a keyring, works from a phone, and carries test credentials from site to site. For blank cards, see our 125 kHz LF cards and 13.56 MHz HF / MIFARE cards.

Typical applications

  • Access-control installation
  • Card reader testing
  • Lift access testing
  • Time-attendance testing
  • NFC development
  • Authorised security audits

Frequently asked questions

Which cards does the IDTS-DFE8 work with?
It works with 125 kHz ID (proximity) cards and writes T5577 blanks, and with 13.56 MHz IC and NFC cards such as MIFARE Classic and MIFARE Ultralight. High-security cards are designed so they cannot be duplicated, so tell us your card type before you order.
How many cards can it store?
It has 8 card slots. Each slot can hold one 13.56 MHz card and one 125 kHz card, so up to 16 cards in total.
How is it controlled?
From an Android or iOS phone app over Bluetooth LE 5.0. The USB Type-C port is used for charging, data and firmware updates from a PC.
How long does the battery last?
It has a 90 mAh rechargeable battery. The supplier rates a full charge at about 6 months with around 8 operations a day; heavier use shortens that.
Is it legal to use?
Yes, for cards and systems you own or are authorised to test — for example commissioning, testing and maintaining access-control readers. Copying or using someone else's access credential without permission is illegal.
