Overview

What the UBR12 pocket UHF RFID Bluetooth reader does

The UBR12 is a very small UHF RFID read/write device, 88 × 39 × 16 mm, that fits in a pocket. It reads EPC Gen2 (ISO 18000-6C) tags and shows the tag number on a 0.95-inch colour OLED screen, with four keys for operation, and it can stay on standby for long periods between uses.

A close-range checker, not a stock counter

Read distance is short by design: about 10–15 cm on an Alien 9662 label. That makes the UBR12 the right tool when you want to confirm one specific tag, for example checking that a product label is genuine, that an asset tag was encoded correctly, or that an inspector was at the right machine. It is not meant for sweeping shelves; for counting stock at several metres, choose a handheld such as the CX1000.

Offline storage and Bluetooth upload

The reader stores up to 100 tag records offline and uploads them over Bluetooth when convenient. It is dual-mode (Bluetooth 3.0 EDR and 4.0 BLE), with a link of up to 100 m to BLE equipment in open space. A Bluetooth API and demo program are provided for PC and Android, so reads can feed your own inspection or verification app. iOS is not supported.

Battery, charging and updates

A 3.7 V 780 mAh lithium battery gives more than 3 hours of continuous reading and charges from a standard micro USB cable. Plugged into a computer, the UBR12 appears as a virtual drive, which is how firmware upgrade files are loaded, so updates can be done offline. It works from 0 °C to +55 °C.

Where it is used

  • Anti-counterfeiting checks on tagged products
  • Logistics: confirming the label on a carton or consignment
  • Equipment inspection rounds with a tag on each machine

The UBR12 is BIS-registered. To see how pocket readers compare with phone sleds and full handhelds, read our guide to reading UHF tags with a phone, or browse all RFID handheld readers.

Typical applications

  • Anti-counterfeit checks

Does the UBR12 work with India's 865–868 MHz tags?
Its 840–930 MHz frequency-hopping range includes India's 865–868 MHz UHF band, and it reads EPC C1 Gen2 / ISO 18000-6C tags.
Can the UBR12 connect to an iPhone?
No. A Bluetooth API and demo program are provided for PC and Android; iOS is not supported.
How many tags can it store without a connection?
Up to 100 tag records offline, uploaded later over Bluetooth 3.0 EDR + 4.0 BLE. In open space the BLE link can reach up to 100 m.
How long does the battery last?
More than 3 hours of continuous tag reading from its 3.7 V 780 mAh battery, which charges with an ordinary micro USB cable.
