Key features

  • Anti-metal construction: reads when mounted directly on metal
  • 13.56 MHz HF with a read range of about 5 cm
  • Black round disc with adhesive backing
  • Made for access control and close-range ID of metal items

Overview

HF anti-metal RFID tag: why a normal tag fails on steel

Stick a standard HF tag on steel and it usually stops reading. The metal absorbs and distorts the 13.56 MHz field, so the tag antenna cannot draw enough energy to reply. This tag uses an anti-metal construction that keeps the antenna working when it sits flat on a metal surface.

The trade-off is distance: expect about 5 cm, so the reader or phone has to come close. For access control and check-in that is an advantage, because one deliberate tap identifies one tag and nearby items are not read by accident.

Where it is used

  • Tap points on steel doors, gates and turnstile housings
  • Metal equipment, cabinets and panels checked during inspections
  • Steel lockers and furniture that need a tap-to-identify tag

Need range on metal? Look at UHF

If metal assets must be read from a metre or more, or counted in bulk with a handheld, an HF tag is the wrong tool. Choose a UHF tag from the on-metal RFID tags range instead; the on-metal tag selection guide explains the trade-offs.

Where to use the HF Anti-Metal RFID Tag (13.56 MHz, Black)

  • Access control points
  • Metal equipment ID
  • Steel cabinets and lockers
  • Machine and control panels

Frequently asked questions

What is the read range of this HF anti-metal tag?
About 5 cm. That is normal for a 13.56 MHz tag mounted on metal, and it suits tap-and-read use where the reader or phone is held close to the tag.
Why not use an ordinary HF tag on metal?
Metal detunes a standard HF antenna, so the tag may not read at all, or only now and then. The anti-metal construction is what lets this tag work flat on steel.
Which reader do I need?
A 13.56 MHz HF reader or access control reader. Tell us the reader or panel you use when you ask for a quote so we can confirm the tag is compatible with it.
When should I choose a UHF on-metal tag instead?
When you need to read from a distance or count many metal assets quickly. UHF on-metal tags working on India’s 865–868 MHz band read from metres away; this HF tag is for close-range taps.
