Overview

A UHF RFID file tracking label sized for folder spines and cartons

The ID 73x21-M830 is a long, narrow UHF RFID label: 73 × 20 mm, with a 70 × 14 mm antenna running almost its full length. That shape fits the spine or edge of a file cover, a box file or the side of an archive carton, where it can be read without opening the file. It is a passive EPC Gen2 label, so it needs no battery and a UHF handheld moved along a shelf reads many files in one sweep.

Impinj M830 or Alien Higgs 10?

This label uses the Impinj M830, a chip from Impinj's M800 series. It has a 128-bit EPC and a 96-bit factory TID but no user memory, which suits file tracking systems that keep only the file or asset number on the tag. It is rated for 100,000 programming cycles and 10-year data retention, against 200,000 cycles and 50 years for the Higgs 10 version. This label, with the same antenna and roll format, is also offered on the Alien Higgs 10 chip with 32 bits of user memory as the ID 73x21-H10.

How a file tracking setup uses it

  1. Register. Write the file number to the 128-bit EPC with a UHF desktop reader or RFID printer, and link it to the file record in your software.
  2. Lock. Set the 32-bit password, which the M830 shares for access and kill, and lock the EPC so the number cannot be overwritten by mistake.
  3. Track. Read files at the record room desk, at doorways with a fixed reader, and shelf by shelf with a handheld during audits.

For a complete record room setup, see the file and record room tracking guide and the RFID file tracking system range.

Roll format for printers

Labels come on a 3-inch core with an 85 mm liner, 25.4 mm pitch and 5.4 mm gap, with the 73 mm side running across the liner. Check your printer's media width and core size against these figures before ordering. The same label also serves office asset tags and carton labels, provided it is not applied directly to metal.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the ID 73x21-M830 label?
The label measures 73 × 20 mm with 2 mm rounded corners, and the antenna inside is 70 × 14 mm. Rolls use a 3-inch core and an 85 mm liner, with a roll diameter of up to 153 mm.
How much data can the label hold?
The Impinj M830 chip has a 128-bit EPC for the file or asset number and a 96-bit factory TID. It has no user memory. Most file tracking systems keep only the ID on the tag and store file details in the database; if you need 32 bits of user memory on the tag, choose the ID 73x21-H10 on the Alien Higgs 10 chip.
Can I stick it on steel almirahs or metal assets?
No. Apply it to the file, folder or carton, not to the metal cabinet. Standard UHF labels detune when stuck directly on metal; for metal assets choose an on-metal tag, as explained in the on-metal RFID tag guide.
Does this label work in India?
Yes. It responds across 860–960 MHz, which covers India's licence-exempt 865–868 MHz UHF band, and works with EPC Gen2 UHF readers used in India.
Can labels be supplied printed and encoded?
Printed file numbers and pre-encoded EPCs can be requested with a bulk quote. If you print in-house, make sure your printer accepts an 85 mm liner on a 3-inch core.
