Overview

What the 107W Wi-Fi UHF RFID desktop reader does

The 107W is a countertop UHF RFID reader that connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) as well as USB. It puts RFID reading where there is no network cable, such as a temporary billing counter, a stockroom table or a library service desk, and still sends tag data to your server or application over TCP/IP.

Range and speed

The reader works across 860–960 MHz, which covers India's 865–868 MHz UHF band, and reads EPC Class 1 Gen 2 tags. It reads up to 50 tags per second at up to 2 m, which is longer than a typical encoding reader, and output power can be set from 1 to 20 dBm. On a shared counter, turning the power down keeps reads to the items in front of the reader rather than stock elsewhere in the room. The unit weighs under 300 g.

Connecting it to your software

USB keyboard emulation

Over USB the reader types tag numbers into any application, with no integration work.

TCP/IP over Wi-Fi

On the wireless network, your application receives reads over TCP/IP, so the reader does not have to sit next to a PC.

SDK

An SDK covers Windows, Android and iOS for building the reader into your own app.

Where it is used

  • Retail checkout: a wireless RFID checkout counter.
  • Stockroom: inventory counting without network cabling.
  • Library: book check-in and check-out at the service counter.
  • Asset audit: a mobile audit station that moves with the auditor.

For complete setups, see our guides to RFID library management and RFID billing counters for retail, or compare other models in the UHF RFID desktop reader range.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Wi-Fi UHF desktop reader used for?
It reads UHF tags on a counter without an Ethernet cable, connecting over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or USB. Typical uses are retail checkout counters, stockroom counts, library service desks and mobile audit stations.
What is the read range and speed of the 107W?
Up to 2 m and up to 50 tags per second, with output power adjustable from 1 to 20 dBm. Lower power settings help keep reads to items placed at the counter.
Does the 107W work on the Indian UHF band?
Yes. It covers 860–960 MHz, which includes India's 865–868 MHz UHF RFID band, and reads EPC Class 1 Gen 2 tags.
Which operating systems does it support?
An SDK supports Windows, Android and iOS. Over USB it can also act as a HID keyboard, so tag numbers type straight into any application, and over Wi-Fi it communicates by TCP/IP.
