Overview

What the IDTS-ULA low-gain UHF antenna does

Most UHF RFID antennas are bought for distance. The IDTS-ULA is bought for the opposite reason: its low gain and omni-directional pattern give a read zone of 0–2 m around the antenna, so the reader picks up the tags placed at a counter or on a desk and ignores the stock a few metres away.

At 108 × 98 mm, it is small enough to sit on a desk, beside a billing terminal or on a shelf without getting in the way.

Tuning the read zone

The spec sheet lists an RF output adjustable from 0 to 3 dBm, which lets you shrink or extend the zone within that 0–2 m range to match the counter or shelf. It covers 860–960 MHz with FHSS frequency hopping, which takes in India's 865–868 MHz band, and works with ISO 18000-6C (EPC Gen2) and ISO 18000-6B tags. Free demonstration software and an SDK are provided for testing and integration.

Where a low-gain antenna fits

  • Billing and issue counters: reading only the items placed in front of the operator.
  • Desks and workstations: checking tagged files, tools or samples in and out.
  • Shelf read points: confirming items at one location without cross-reads from the next bay.

For long distances, gates or dock doors, a high-gain circular panel is the better match. For a slimmer antenna that fits along a shelf edge, see the SY702 low-gain strip antenna.

Installation notes

The IDTS-ULA is rated IP40, so install it indoors, away from water and heavy dust. It operates from −20 °C to +60 °C at up to 80% non-condensing humidity. RF cables and connectors are not included, so tell us your reader's antenna port type and the cable length you need when you request a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is the read range of the IDTS-ULA?
0–2 m, in all directions around the antenna rather than in one long beam. The RF output is adjustable from 0 to 3 dBm, so you can shrink the zone to suit a counter, desk or shelf.
Which frequencies and tag protocols does it support?
It covers 860–960 MHz, which includes India's 865–868 MHz UHF RFID band. It supports ISO 18000-6C (EPC Class 1 Gen2) and ISO 18000-6B tags and uses FHSS frequency hopping.
Can the IDTS-ULA be used outdoors?
No. It carries an IP40 rating, so it is meant for indoor installation. It operates from −20 °C to +60 °C at up to 80% non-condensing humidity.
Are RF cables and connectors included?
No, RF cables and connectors are supplied at extra cost. Confirm the cable length and reader connector you need when ordering. Free demonstration software and an SDK are provided for integration.
