Overview

How reusable RFID jewellery tags keep tagging costs down

In a jewellery store the stock turns over, but the tags do not have to. A reusable tag is clipped to a ring holder or hanger, or threaded through a display hole, and stays with the piece until it is sold. At billing it is taken off, its EPC is rewritten for the next item and it goes back into the drawer. A single-use adhesive inlay, by contrast, leaves with the customer or is thrown away.

Running a reuse cycle

  1. Tag. Write the item code to the EPC with a UHF desktop reader and print the description or price on the white face.
  2. Count. Read trays and showcases during the day with a handheld or an RFID smart tray.
  3. Reissue. Remove the tag at sale, close the item in your software and rewrite the tag for new stock.

Other formats, from adhesive labels to hard tags, are in the RFID jewellery tag range.

Frequently asked questions

What makes this jewellery tag reusable?
It attaches with a snap-on clip or string loop instead of adhesive, so it comes off cleanly when a piece is sold. The EPC is then rewritten and the same tag is fitted to a new item.
Will the tag mark gold or silver jewellery?
It uses no adhesive on the piece, so there is no glue residue on precious metal. The small 18–25 mm body fits rings, earrings and pendants without hiding the item on display.
How do I change the EPC when the tag moves to another item?
Rewrite it with a UHF desktop reader or encoder connected to your stock software, then update the item record. HF versions are rewritten with a 13.56 MHz ISO 15693 reader.
Is it available in UHF and HF?
Yes. UHF (865 MHz band) suits counting a whole tray or showcase at once; HF (13.56 MHz, ISO 15693) suits short-range checks of one piece at the counter.
Reusable tag or hard tag: which should I buy?
Choose this tag if you want to recirculate tags without adhesive. The hard jewellery tag also offers an adhesive option, and the JT3515 adds an IP68 body and an NXP UCODE 9xe chip.
