Overview

What the CY3 RFID gas cylinder tag does

Gas suppliers send cylinders out to customers, bring them back for refilling and test them at intervals. Tracking large numbers of cylinders every day through registers and painted numbers is slow and error-prone, and each cylinder that goes untraced is a direct loss. The CY3 gives every cylinder a UHF tag that a reader identifies without contact or line of sight.

What the tag can hold

The memory is rewritable, so the record can follow the cylinder as it moves. Typical data includes:

  • the cylinder's identification number
  • proof of ownership
  • original storage location or depot
  • movement and service history

Reading many cylinders at once

The chip supports multi-read, so a reader can identify a row of cylinders on a vehicle or in a filling bay in one pass rather than one at a time. A UHF handheld reader suits depot audits and delivery checks; fixed readers suit filling lines.

Beyond gas cylinders

The same tag is used on high-pressure boilers, vessels and pipes, lifting machinery, lift maintenance, auto parts and electronic equipment: anywhere an inspection or maintenance record has to stay with a metal item. For fill-cycle tracking and PESO record-keeping, read our gas cylinder tracking guide.

Typical applications

  • Gas cylinder tracking
  • Filling plant checks
  • Delivery vehicle loading
  • Pressure vessel records
  • Boiler and pipe inspection
  • Lift maintenance records
  • Lifting equipment audits

Frequently asked questions

Does the CY3 read on metal cylinders?
Yes. The CY3 is made for gas cylinders and other metal equipment, where paper labels and ordinary UHF stickers do not read reliably. Test a sample on your own cylinder type to settle the mounting position before a bulk order.
What read range should I expect?
No fixed figure is published for the CY3, because range on a cylinder depends heavily on the reader's output power, its antenna and where the tag sits on the cylinder. Run a sample with the reader you plan to use to confirm the distance at your filling line or depot.
Can several cylinders be read at the same time?
Yes. The tag supports multi-read, so a group of cylinders can be identified in a single scan without contact or line of sight, which speeds up checks at filling plants, depots and on delivery vehicles.
Can the data on the tag be changed later?
Yes. The CY3 is rewritable, so the stored identification, ownership, location and history can be updated without contact as a cylinder is refilled, reassigned or moved.
Which frequency does the CY3 use?
865–868 MHz, the licence-exempt UHF RFID band in India, so it works with UHF readers set up for Indian operation.
