Overview

How the J62 UHF jewellery label is used

Each piece gets its own label carrying a unique EPC number, linked to the item's record in your stock software. At opening or closing, staff pass a UHF handheld or a smart tray reader over a tray and every tagged piece is counted together, instead of being lifted and checked one at a time. The same label works for other small items, such as cosmetics.

What RFID changes in a jewellery store

  • Faster daily reconciliation of trays, showcases and safe stock
  • Missing pieces show up at once against the expected list
  • Staff can locate a specific design for a customer more quickly
  • Cleaner stock records for audits and insurance valuation

Readers and encoding

Read distance depends on the reader: densely packed trays, metal display fittings and the pieces themselves all affect it. A UHF handheld reader suits walk-around counts, while an RFID smart tray checks one tray at the counter. The label is read–write, so EPC data can be written in-store with a desktop UHF reader. For a full rollout plan, read our jewellery RFID guide.

Frequently asked questions

How does an RFID label speed up jewellery stock counts?
Every tagged piece answers the reader at once, so a tray, showcase or safe drawer is counted in one sweep and compared with the expected list. Staff no longer handle and tick off each piece by hand.
What read range does the J62 label have?
Read distance is reader dependent. It varies with the reader and antenna, how closely pieces are packed in the tray and any nearby metal fittings. Short, controlled reads are usually what a jewellery counter needs.
Will it work with our jewellery management software?
The label carries a standard EPC Gen2 number. Your software needs to accept input from a UHF RFID reader to link each EPC to an item record, so check this with your software provider before ordering.
Which reader should I use with jewellery labels?
A UHF handheld reader for counting showcases and the safe, an RFID smart tray for counter-level checks, and a desktop UHF reader to encode labels when tagging new stock.
Can the labels be used for items other than jewellery?
Yes. The J62 is also suited to small objects and cosmetics where a compact UHF label is needed for stock counting.
