Wifi Based UHF Integrated Reader IF9A | Impinj E3500
The Wi-Fi version of the IF9A integrated UHF reader. Its inbuilt Wi-Fi posts tag reads over HTTP directly to your server, so a parking, yard or gate read point does not need a network cable or a local PC.

Overview
What the Wi-Fi IF9A UHF integrated reader does
This is the IF9A integrated UHF reader with Wi-Fi built in. The reader, a 9 dBi antenna and the wireless radio share one rugged die-cast aluminium case, and the reader can post tag reads over HTTP straight to a web server or cloud application. No PC or middleware box is needed at the read point.
That makes it the IF9A to choose when pulling a network cable to the location is costly or impractical: a parking entry across an open lot, a yard gate or a temporary site.
How direct HTTP POST works
- Connect. Join the reader to your Wi-Fi network and set the server address that should receive reads.
- Read. In Active mode the reader starts reading tags in range as soon as it powers up.
- Post. Tag reads are sent as HTTP POST requests to your endpoint, where your parking, gate or tracking software acts on them.
If your application would rather ask for data, Answer mode lets it call the reader on demand. SDKs are provided for .NET and Java applications as well as Linux, Python, Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects. Our RFID software and middleware guide covers how those reads become records in your system.
Read performance
Inside the case, the Impinj E3500 chip drives a 9 dBi antenna for an effective read distance of up to 25 m; tag size, mounting height and nearby metal all shift that figure. Each read can include EPC, TID and User memory, so the server receiving the POST gets more than the EPC number alone. The LED turns green on every read, a quick way to confirm the aim before you fix the reader in place.
Wired links and relay
Wi-Fi is not the only option on this unit: it also has USB, RS232, Wiegand, RJ45 Ethernet and PoE, plus an optional relay output for a boom barrier or alarm. If the site has no Wi-Fi coverage at all, the 4G IF9A uses a SIM card instead. For a gate that already has cabling, the standard IF9A is the simpler choice.
Typical applications
- Parking entry and exit
- Yard vehicle tracking
- Gate access control
- Personnel tracking
