Overview

Small 33 × 13 mm UHF RFID label for compact items

The 33x13-U9 is a small paper UHF RFID label for items that cannot take a standard-size label: component bins, small cartons, files, accessory packs and boxed automotive spares. It is built on the NXP UCODE 9 chip with up to 96 bits of EPC memory, enough for a GS1 SGTIN-96 or your own serial number.

The face is white paper, supplied blank, so you can print a part number, barcode or logo next to the encoded EPC. That lets staff still read the item by eye or with a barcode scanner while RFID handles bulk counts.

Read range and placement

Rated read range is up to 5 m, depending on the reader. A short antenna reads best when the label faces the reader antenna, so apply it flat on the side of the item that will face the reader. As a paper label it suits dry indoor storage within −20 °C to 50 °C; moisture, liquids and direct contact with metal all reduce performance.

When to choose a larger label

Pick the 33 × 13 mm size only where space is tight. If the item has room, a larger label such as the 50 × 30 mm UHF label has a bigger antenna and is more forgiving of placement. To compare UCODE 9 with other common chips, see the Impinj vs NXP chip guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the read range of the 33 × 13 mm UHF label?
Up to 5 m, with the actual distance depending on the reader, its antenna and the item the label is on. Small labels read most consistently when they face the reader antenna directly.
Can I print on the 33x13-U9 label?
Yes. It has a white paper face and is supplied blank, so part numbers, barcodes and logos can be printed on it. An RFID printer can print and encode in one pass; otherwise print the face first and encode the EPC on a UHF desktop reader.
Can it hold GS1 or SGTIN-96 codes?
Yes. The NXP UCODE 9 chip has up to 96 bits of EPC memory, which fits a GS1 SGTIN-96 or a 24-character hexadecimal serial. Keep descriptive item data in your software and use the EPC as the lookup key.
Will this paper UHF label work on metal items?
No. Paper UHF labels do not read reliably on metal or liquid-filled items. For a similar small footprint on metal, use an on-metal label such as the 30 × 15 mm flexible on-metal label.
