Overview
2-port UHF integrated reader for wide gates and second read points
The IF9A-2P is a fixed UHF RFID reader with a 9 dBi antenna built into the housing and one extra antenna port. On its own it works like any integrated reader: mount it, power it and it reads the tags in front of it. Plug an external UHF antenna into the second port and the same reader also covers a second zone, without running another set of power and network cables.
What the second port solves
An integrated reader has a single read pattern. At a wide warehouse gate or a two-way dock door, tags passing along the far edge can fall outside it. The usual fix is a second reader with its own power point, network drop and configuration. With the IF9A-2P the external antenna is driven by the same reader, so your software still sees one device and one data stream.
- Cover both sides of a dock door or vehicle gate from one reader
- Add a lower or angled antenna for tags that pass at a different height
- Reach a nearby second lane or doorway with only an antenna cable
Performance and connectivity
The reader is built on the Impinj E710 chip and bulk-reads up to 1,000 tags per second, which matters when a pallet or trolley of tagged cartons passes in one go. The inbuilt antenna gives an effective reading distance of up to 25 m; real range depends on the tag, the surface it is fixed to and the site. A multi-function LED shows red for power and green on each tag read, which helps during commissioning.
In Active mode the reader sends tag data as soon as it reads; in Answer mode your software polls it with function calls. Interface options are USB, RS232, Wiegand, RJ45, Wi-Fi, PoE and 4G, and an optional relay output can switch a boom barrier, hooter or lamp. SDKs for .NET, Java, Linux, Python, Arduino and Raspberry Pi let integrators build it into their own application.
Choosing between IF9A versions
If one read zone is enough, the single-port IF9A integrated reader is the simpler choice. Pick the IF9A-2P when you already know a gate is too wide for one antenna or a door needs reading from both sides. For three or more zones, a multi-port reader with separate antennas is usually the better plan; the gate and portal reader guide explains the layouts, and all models are in the integrated readers range.
Typical applications
- Wide warehouse gates
- Two-sided dock doors
- Parking entry lanes
- Vehicle access control
- Conveyor read points
- Staff and asset gates
