Overview
UHF RFID library tag sized for book spines
The 9503-U9 is a 95 × 3 mm UHF tag for book management in public, academic, school and institutional libraries. At 3 mm wide it slips into the spine without a visible bump, keeping the tag out of sight and clear of the spine label. UHF readers pick up many spines in one pass, which suits libraries with long runs of shelving.
How libraries use it
- Self-checkout and returns: a stack of books placed on the station is read together.
- Shelf audits: walk an aisle with a handheld and record every spine, including misplaced titles.
- Periodicals and bound journals: the narrow strip suits thin spines.
- Inter-branch loans: items stay identifiable as they move between branches.
Encoding and integration
The tag carries a 96-bit EPC. Most libraries write the accession number into it and keep the catalogue record in the library management system, which talks to self-check and staff stations, usually over SIP2. Encode and verify each tag at a staff workstation while books are processed, before they return to the shelf.
